Is it possible to go from ME to XP Pro without scrubbing the hard drive of all other apps.?
bull
You should be able to just do the update instead of the full install. The full install is the best option IMO, but it should work.

I don't know about ME -> XP PRO but definitely ME -> XP HOME. But bull is right clean in stall is much smoother and less a pain in th ass.

Yes you can upgrade from me.

But it is not recommended doing to. The reason is because you are going from one OS architecture (a bad one at that) to another. Which can be painful for you applications. And some will need to be reinstalled any ways.

-It is best that you backup all your user data on to a CD/DVD or another computer.
-Download the SP for XP and put that on a CD/DVD or another computer.

-Once you have every thing backed up, pop the XP Pro Upgrade CD in the drive, reboot and assuming your computer can boot from cd the XP installer will load.
-It will probably ask you if you want to upgrade or do a complete install. It is recommended to do a complete install cus then your have a "clean" computer and its not loaded down with old unused stuff any more.
-tell it to format your hard drive BUT make sure you have all your data backed up first!!!!
-Once it is installed make sure your not connected to the internet incase of virus infections and install the SP and install any virus software and firewall software you have.
-Then you can connect to the internet and update your XP and virus software.

Personally I would backup and format I wouldn't upgrade from 9x to a NT based OS as you may end up with problems.

I know I'm running with scissors, but I upgraded from ME to XP 1,5 years ago, and everythings running fine here. Might be just luck tho icon_smile.gif
MadCow
Oh it is posible kalmark. And you might not have to reinstall any thing. But from a clean point of view a format is best. Not only does it clean up your harddrive it also helps make your system run faster.
kalmark
Yep, you're right MC! But if you don't wnat to lose data and can't properly backup stuff, you can get away with an upgrade icon_smile.gif
MadCow
