intel use to be the best. Cost dont matter here...if your good, your good...
now AMD is the better of the two. Not neding to use such outrageous tactics to get their cpus to run good...
odie
Jun 16 2002, 12:34 PM
Intel WAS good, but like paps said they are expensive for what you get...
AMD is a great performing CPU with the right price... really do they run that hot? LOL

AMD has decent, affordable CPU but I just plain out like the northwood's better

or for the best the person im buying for can afford
other than that it doesnt matter what it is

I use what I know works.. AMD.. all the way... (^_^) They are cheaper, and you don't have to change socket types to get supposedly more speed...
~sid~
Jun 16 2002, 05:19 PM
pin compatible from 500MHz to 2200+
Jason
Jun 16 2002, 05:52 PM
Both are good, both are needed, both are pushing each other forward quicker than ever.
Intel has the money and can bring in new technology quicker and is current fastest and best overclocker (P4) and AMD is the cheapest / best value and very good upcoming processor (Hammer).
~sid~
Jun 16 2002, 06:01 PM
intel brings no new technology forth. they rehash old technology, repackage it, stick on 100million in pr/marketing...
AMD for me, its affordable, its good, fast and stable.

INTELL MAKES ALL THE NEW STUFF,AMD JUST COPIES IT
~sid~
Jun 16 2002, 06:17 PM
the k6 was totally different from any Pentium stuff intel had been making for years...
the athlon was a cpu built from the ground up...it is nothing like the p5/p6 thats intel keeps riding on...
as you can see...the AMD chips have something called a FPU...LOL..intel, i think may have one, but it crunches so little data...you can barely see it in action next to the 50 stage pipeline prefething data that is nothing more than L2 cache leak...

I think ive talked about this before and i coped alot of critism about the bringing up the issue, probably because i actually said Intel = better. Although with much research since then AMD is doing far better, Performance wise, Pioneering and all. Not to mention AMD is also a shit load cheaper, Top end Intels are shat upon by top end AMD and the release of the Hammer will decimate.

Hammer?
You got Hammer :!:
Where is Hammer
Me no see Hammer...
I don't see your point sid. Nothing Intel makes any more is based on P5/P6 so what are you yelling about?

At least there are some smart terrorists out there... talking a lot more sense than some people who hate me.
Bandwidth and overclocking possibilities are increased 100% so is that a "bad" thing?

amd vs intel an age old question
id say nearly as old as pap
but he was born pre god the old fart
ne way i dont think it is nessasary to say which one u prefare
they both have advantages and dissadvantages

I like both companies well. I've used both. I like the fact about Intel is that they make physically strong procs, they don't break quite as easy as a athlon or duron would because they don't have the core exposed. HOWEVER AMD is definatly the winner on performance in a all around situation. I like the P4's because they can scale clock wise, really damn well. BUT, even though the P4 clocks higher, AMD's procs still whoop the snot out of it. Lets not forget the low end, the new Celerons still being spanked hard by the Duron crowd:)
Both are great companies, but AMD is a clear winner, better pricing, great performance, awesome deal!

Ok ok ok pappy... I know. They lease SSE from Intel. Isn't that great?
Jason
Jun 22 2002, 09:16 AM
Leasing SSE2 for Hammer as well.

amd used to copy from intel.. back in the k6 III days
the athlon was pretty new.. barely anything copied at all.. it only preforms better because it was made for gaming.. not offices
i woulda bought intel.. but i was broke and settled for a duron
nothing wrong with intel.. they do have a better product with the pentium 4
though amds are good now.. to go much higher with the "athlon" core.. you gonna need liquid nitrigon =)
amd did the same thing as intel did with the p6 Core
updated it and added SSE
HAHA THAT JUST IS NO FUNNY.. THE EXACT SAME THING!
BTW.. i prefer intel, by chioce and by better products

Yea, you can say that but... it doesnt mean it will happen.. i know many people who had P4's and there shit sucked.. and then he got an Athlon XP.. wow he was kissing my feat.. yea.. its all opinion and facts.. id choose a nice XP 2,200 over a 2.53 P4 for gamign any day.. but wutever

amd uses SSE2 in hammer...
but intel has paid to use x86-64 i32 from amd, and also hypertransport...
also, funny how all the linux uber-geeks are really stoked about hammer, yet they dont give a crap about the i64 itanic stuff...
