Hi, I'm new to this forum, and o/c'ing but i got this old pIII 866mhz lying around. and wanting to overclock it. problem is:
my computer is a
sony vaio, pcv-rx270ds
PIII 866 MHZ
512 SDRAM
radeon 9200 128MB
40GB ATA/66
...and my problem is that i cannot figure out my motherboard's manufacteur. when i enter into my bios, i see no way of changing my FSB, or anything...ive been trying to o/c this guy for 3 months now, i havent found any information. i hope you guys can help me out, if i forgot any ifnormation, please let me know =D

oh, i just used cpu-z program, says
Frequency : 133.6 MHZ
i use one 512 sdram

The problem I see is it's a Sony Vaio, which most certainly has a proprietary BIOS. Dell, Compaq/HP, and most other name brand companys do this also.

intels are hard locked...u wont be able to change the multiplier. i think u will be wasting ur time trying to overclock it.

Theres a fsb clock changer for windows, dangerous as it can currupt your windows install, but thats ur only bet.

Heh 1GHz out of a PIII 866? Hope you've got some wicked sick cooling going on inside that tiny Viao.

can someone help me out with usin this CPUFSB? I'm lookin to o/c my Celeron 2.3 GHz, but I'm wondering how I would go about it safely.
EDIT: I got the celeron to a grand total of 2420.2 MHz and then I hit a barrier... if I try to go higher than that, my system locks up... is there any method to get around that? or am I stuck with a mere 2.4 GHz? I got a temperature monitor monitoring my hardware (GeForce FX o/c'ed to 300/350 clock/mem and now the CPU to 2.4 GHz) and its staying at a pretty stable 31 degrees celsius (87.8 farenheit) for being a stock PC from gateway (cept the video card) its got a pretty mean cooling system...
