Hi Doc. Good to see you here more often:). Came across this link on my homepage:
http://mediresource.sympatico.ca/calculato...ge&front_page=1Now, I realize that these "ranges" usually try to determine a person's "optimium" body mass given their height, but how much stock can you really put into it? I'm 5'8" and I'm broad at 180lbs, but I don't consider myself "fat". I was given a clean bill of health with my last, recent check-up. This scale says my ideal weight is between 122-164 pounds. It doesn't, as far as I can see account for age or sex as a factor. Ten years ago at 20, I'll admit, I had less of a tummy and was in really good shape at 170lbs. What's your take? A "guide" to make a rough estimate, or a target to aim for?

Well , I think a better idex would be body mass index or total body fat %. these both are fairly easy to estimate. An example : My son weighs 174lb and has a height of 5-5. He has a 8% body fat. He is hardly overweight but according to the first chart you used he is obese. By skin calipers he is very lean. These estimates are designed to give someone a place to start not to be very accurate.

wow, wish I had 8% body fat instead of 30-40%.. just estimating but still, heck, I would be ecstatic with 10%!!!
Since my wife is divorcing me, I have been able to not eat a lot (gee, I wonder why) so my body is only getting what it needs, not all the crap I was not supposed to eat. I have already begun to lose weight.
Basically, I am only 5'7" and I want to get real lean like down to 130 lbs (jockey weight). Then my kidneys will really get to take it easy and my other systems that I have stupidly damaged through my mismanagement of my diabetes for so many years.

Sorry to hear that Mandark. Type II diabetes? If so get the book Eating for Life by Bill Phillips and look at that diet. It's quite good for diabetics.

Type I Diabetes for the last 30 years this November.
All is stable, my blood pressure is 120/80 and my cholesterol is 120. The HDL was 60 I believe. I have been using Smart-Balance and excersize along with Provachol 20 MG per day.
My eyes are stable but due to the vitreous gell now beginning to dry and shrink, all the scar tissue from all my laser surguries 15 yrs ago sometimes pull loose and cause small hemorrhages inside the eye. My eye surgeon is keeping a close eye on everything cause we don't want any perforation or tearing of the retina.
Boy, I've got an adventure to look forward too!!
All in all, I have not lost feeling in my feet or any extremities, I am excersizing again and my Hemoglobin H1C has been about 6.4. The extent of neuropathy has been in my stomach, destrying the nerves there, so now I must get my Cisapride from Mexico since the FDA put it back into research. I had been using it for many years. Doctors were using for Acid Reflux!! THat is NOT what it was developed for!! It WAS developed for Gastroparesis. All kinds of doctors were using it on patients with heart arithmia's and some patients died (80 in the USA).
My Endocrinologist , Dr. Nancy J Andrews, is the BEST in the world. I would recommend anyone to her!!

HAve you have a urine test for microalbumin? If not get one. Are you taking an ACE inhibitor. They protect the kidney from damage.
