Full Version: Sound only for a while

Since I put in a new power supply a new problem has surfaced. One that was present before but seemed to stop for a long time. I wonder if the removal of four fans caused increased heat that is causing the problem? Hmmmm. Well , when I am playing COH it will work fine for 30 minutes to 45 minutes then the sound gets all crackly and static like. If I close out of the game and restart it it is gone. MP3's seem to play fine but I haven't tried playing them for 30-45 minutes. I am using the Asus A7N8X motherboard and am using the onboard sound. Do I just need to buy a PCI sound card? And if so , which one? Don't try and sell me a Sound blaster Audigy 2. Too high for my blood. Suggestions?

Find an original Soundblaster Live. I can't stand onboard sound - nForce2 or not.

I have onboard sound on my Leadtek NF2 board and have had nothing but good luck with it.

What version of drivers are you using? Maybe Coz can come in, this is an issue near and dear to his heart. cocky.gif

Probably whatever drivers came with the mobo. I don't think I have upgraded them. Where would I look?

The nForce2 sound is amazing... IMHO better then my Audigy. No crackles or pauses.

Its really really REALLY good.

Aladoc, I have that exact same problem just recently.

When I play Joint Operations the sound will cut out all together. I then have to go back into the options and click on the "sound" page and hit "apply" and the sound will come back. But when it does, it comes back all crackily and static like. If I exit out and restart the game, the sound is normal.

For this particular title, this has been the only game I have ever experienced that has done this w/ my Nforce2 sound chipset. When asking around, I have discovered that it's actually bad code in the game, not the sound cards fault. Other users have experienced this problem w/ SB cards and on board sound.

They only advice they offer is to "wait for a patch".

I don't know if it's similar to the game you are playing or not.

I had the exact same problem in COH with my onboard NForce2 sound... ever since the latest Nvidia driver set. I popped in my Audigy2 and the problem went away, but now I have the traditional pops and clicks of Creative Labs, but at least the sound doesn't totally disappear like it was with the Nforce2.
