macs should be made illegal

I just wish that Apple would release the MAC OSX for the X86 platform icon_smile.gif Then maybe it would be more of a real fight. I am not about to buy a MAC because I prefer to build my own and am not up to paying what Apple wants for a MAC.

My nephew's wife works for a publisher and they have tried using PC's but the new MAC's are just plain easier to use.

Everything a publisher could want is available, ultra high quality, and totally optimized for just that purpose.

Each machine has a Gig of ram and G5's for 2 grand a piece.... that is an awesome price and comes with onsite support for 3 years.

MAC's have a purpose... to WORK. The do what they do VERY well and the 3D interface kicks all ass right now.

The quality is much much higher with MAC's and thier components, and peripherals as well. Everything is optimized for working together in harmony.

Most people I know would MAC's mostly to do work, not as personal machines.

I have heard of PearPC and heard that it was kind of slow but also you still have to have Windows installed to use the emulator. I would like to be able to run just OSX on a PC icon_smile.gif I am looking for a replacement for Windows and OSX sounds like a real good replacement. If Apple were to release OSX for the PC, I would be one of the first to buy it unless they were to ask way too much for it.

Runs slow still at the moment, hopefully that will change a bit.

You will probably never see OSX for x86 systems. If you did, it would probably be more proof of concept than an actual retail product. Apple is first and foremost a hardware company. OSX is just the loss leader to move the hardware out the door. If Apple depended on sales of OSX alone and ditched their hardware division, then the company in all likelihood would die within a few years. They would never be able to replace Windows as the OS of choice on PCs because Microsoft would never allow Apple to even get any significant amount of market penetration.

For those of you who just want the pretties then go to www.engadget.com for the howto's. For those of you want the innards of OSX then go to developer.apple.com/darwin/. For those of you who have the juice then, as Charlie said, install PearPC. For those of you who want the full meal deal, just go buy a used G4 PowerMac and put Panther or Tiger on it.

Personally, I have been using Macs since March 1984. I do all my billable work on an upgraded G4 that I purchased new in 2000. This will last me at least another year or 2 before I replace it with a new Mac. I play UT2004 on a Shuttle XPC that I bought in 2003. I would like to replace it with a newer one now. In the long term, I have spent more on my PCs to play games than I have on my Macs to do billable work. This situation is not uncommon for a lot of users.

Sorry for the rant - it's late and I'm tired,

Mike

BTW it's 'Mac' not 'MAC'.

Doh! Dumb internets and the shelf life of our "never going to happen comments".

Yeah, with Intel Inside MACs now, OSX DOES run on X86!!

My vote is for Mac.

I am getting to the point with working on a PC all day that I don't care to come home and surf or do stuff. I play few games. So I am not in the market for building my own PC any more.

With Mac's, there not for the high end gamer or the modder... There for people that want a good computer that does what it is supposed to do.

My self I am waiting to the Intel Core 2 Duo to come out before I get an IMac. Side by side the IMac is a better deal then a PC. And if I want to play games I will just boot up into windows and I have my dedicated gaming PC right there. The ATI X1600 will do what I want to with out having to spend 400 bucks... that and its better then my GF3 icon_wink.gif

OSX does not run a PC persay. It will only run on Mac hardware. It will never be release to the PC market, cus unlike windows, Apple wants to control what there software works on so its garentied to work.
