You will probably never see OSX for x86 systems. If you did, it would probably be more proof of concept than an actual retail product. Apple is first and foremost a hardware company. OSX is just the loss leader to move the hardware out the door. If Apple depended on sales of OSX alone and ditched their hardware division, then the company in all likelihood would die within a few years. They would never be able to replace Windows as the OS of choice on PCs because Microsoft would never allow Apple to even get any significant amount of market penetration.
For those of you who just want the pretties then go to
www.engadget.com for the howto's. For those of you want the innards of OSX then go to
developer.apple.com/darwin/. For those of you who have the juice then, as Charlie said, install
PearPC. For those of you who want the full meal deal, just go buy a
used G4 PowerMac and put Panther or Tiger on it.
Personally, I have been using Macs since March 1984. I do all my billable work on an upgraded G4 that I purchased new in 2000. This will last me at least another year or 2 before I replace it with a new Mac. I play UT2004 on a Shuttle XPC that I bought in 2003. I would like to replace it with a newer one now. In the long term, I have spent more on my PCs to play games than I have on my Macs to do billable work. This situation is not uncommon for a lot of users.
Sorry for the rant - it's late and I'm tired,
Mike
BTW it's
'Mac' not
'MAC'.
