After much thought and begging by my daughter I caved in and bought her a cell service from Verizon. Nice package. new phone every two years and all kinds of free minutes after 9 and weekends. Well got the first phone bill today $235.00 US Samolians, confused? you heard me right $235 bucks. She made 53 phone calls the first day she had the phone and over 400 for the month. I run a business and have 5 phone lines including a fax that I sell time on, and I don't make 100 calls a month.
My daughter is in college so I guess this might be normal cell phone use, though I wonder when she is going to class or studying. Needless to say I threatened her with removal of the phone that seems to have come attached to her ear even if I have to use a hatchet.
Moral of this story is free don't necessarly mean free, free minutes don't mean free long distance. Even I missed that. Cells are a great thing but understand all the costs before you get one for your phone addicted kid

We actually see this alot around this time of year, but mostly it's parents who can't control all the calls their kids make... They expect that a set number of minutes will be enough, but their kids always end up going over, and racking up huge bills...
Needless to say.. make sure you read all the fine print and ask all the questions you can think of before getting a phone... Mind you.. alot of cell sales people are in it for the "quick sale" and will tell you anything you want to hear.. just make sure you go to a reliable dealer, that will tell you all the details...
And as a side note.. I myself use thousands of minutes a month, and have 2 phones on a package, and pay no more than $100 a month at most... (even with any LD I use)

Ya... that's why I love my plan. Free long distance, no roaming, only 500 anytime but I mainly work during the day so my nights start when I get out of work...

I like my plan best.... work pays my bill
But even so AT&T gives them a great deal for $99 flat rate unlimited local and long distance with no roaming.

Why are kids so obsessed with phones ? personally I would much rsther meet the person than speak on the phone to them for ages.
I wonder how many of the calls were actually worth making ?

just think....
u can either talk to a girl on the phone
or talk to her in real life... which has the added bonus of grabbing her dragging her back to you cave and having your way with her

Bob, you english are still in the stone age, caves, dragging, duh. Its better in the states you just say "do you wana?" Problem is, after, you have to get on the cell phone that your parents are paying for and tell the world.
