This was already sort of asked but I don't understand the answer. I recently bought a Nokia 3205i cellphone and I record things on it (like my voice or songs or something like that), and when I try to set it as my ringtone it says that it is copyrighted material and it does not put the file I selected as my ringtone. If anyone could please tell me why this happens and how I could set my recordings as ringtones I would greatly appreciate it. I also read on this site somewhere that Nokia does not let you put anything else other than their ringtones on the phones (or those of the phone company you are with), but my friend has a Nokia (I'm not sure what the model is but it is very good quality and it is white...Paris Hilton owns one, lol, I don't know how else to describe it), and she can record anything she wants and can set it as her ringtone. Thank you for all your time and help.

It is locked by both the provider and the manufacturer to prevent piracy of music. The ringtone industry is a very lucrative one, and the providers believe that if you don't pay for their ringers, then you shouldn't be able to use any of your own... But in the same right, Nokia doesn't want to be the one to be blamed for piracy of any sort...

So there is no way to set my own ring tone? I just called Nokia in the US and they don't know much about the 3205i model because they don't have it there. Why is it that my friend's phone which is also Nokia and she lives in Canada can do this? Is it probably because of Telus? Is there something I can do to change this, like getting around Telus' rules somehow?

ROFL... Last time I checked, Earthy works for / represents Telus! Thats like asking Bill Gates if you could crack Product Actrivation hehehehehe.... good luck

Yes I do work for Telus, but that doesn't mean I haven't hacked some phones... lol..

The Nokia 3205i is actually available in the us from Sprint, but it is locked from using non-copyrighted tunes as well..

I have this phone and have been digging, and searching to find a way to put my own tones on there, and no matter what I do, they always have the same problem.. I talked to the mokai reps at the "product training" I just went to, and all the future nokias will have that same feature built into them.. With your friends, it depends on the model, and manufacture date of the phone itself... But the info I have gotten from Nokia is that they are starting to use a proprietary format for their tones.. now, if they would ever tell us what that is, it would be a different story so until someone can make an encoder for that specifi type of ringer.. it is impossible...

Trust me.. if I could save you some money.. I would.. lol.. I hate to pay for ringers as well...
