Hey if some one game me a Titanium notebook... I would use it... there nice...

My wife has an imac. The peripherals are either interchangeable with wintel or slightly more expensive
It is real easy to put windows on a mac: there is a program called virtual pc which lets you run windows xp or any other OS in a mac window.
btw, windows is more stable on a mac than on an intel machine in my limited experience. I too would love to have a new ibook or G4 dual processor.
I've experimented with the MacOS, Linux, but still know windows best, so it seems easiest. There are advantages to the mac including stability, and it seems more fun, like being in a special club----like in the old DOS days!!

Well, as you said, if someone gave me a mac laptop I would probably use it as a laptop. But, I'd never consider buying one myself due to my bias beleifs.
Mr Magoo
id use it as a lamp stand
Ghandi
when you turn in for the night it can be used as a night light when it's off.

I am going to go against the post and say 5 reasons why I would buy one:

1. Stable
2. Unix based
3. No M$ viruses
4. Good mem management
5. GOod Hardware.
ScHiZo
I have an Apple Macintosh Performa 637CD (yes it's the old 680x0 or 68k processor one for you hardcore Mac addicts icon_lol.gif ), and it's rotting away as we speak  The funny thing was that I use to love Macs when I was a kid. I thought they were amazing because you could play games on it like Power Pete, Spectre, and etc. I was such a pure virgin w/ the Mac on my desktop, but it all changed when my friend bought a Packerd Bell! icon_cry.gif I became seduced into the "dark side" icon_evil.gif , and my Mac seemed incredibly slow and worthless all of a sudden. Ahhhh well, maybe there will be something superior to PC's, and we'll have fond memories of them as well icon_lol.gif
Ghandi
first off your off topic....you should create a new posts as too why you would buy a Macintosh.

second of all what have they done to your man! icon_eek.gif
did they take you miles beneath the surface of earth and tortue you until you claimed that they were better?!

either way i still wouldn't use a mac.

and if i remember right you can't just stick any piece of hardware into one of those things.
ScHiZo
Woa, easy there Ghandi. I was just bring up some good old memories of my Mac days heh You don't have to get all authoritative on me icon_lol.gif Hmm, about why someone should buy a Mac, I have no clue :P I'm personally using a PC, and here's the specs (as pathetic as it may be, it's still a PC).

AMD Athlon 600 @ 630MHz
OCZ GeForce2 PRO 64MB @ 225/445MHz
ASUS K7V-T w/ 1008-D BIOS
Quantum 10GB 7200rpm UDMA 66
IBM 15.2GB 5400rpm UDMA 33 (Backup)
Xerox & MTec 256MB PC133 @ 105MHz 2-2-2
TEAC CDW54E 4x4x32 CD-RW
3COM OfficeConnect NIC
Yamaha 724 XWave-320
Philips 107S 17" Monitor
Boston Acoustics BA635 2.1
Logitech WheelMouse USB
Generic POS Win9x Keyboard
Antec KS282 Solutions Case

P.S. Slightly updated from a previous post, just in case you're wondering.

1 reason i dont use a mac....expensive for what you actually get...
naphie
Apple hardware may be expensive but you have to take a close look at what you are getting. The operating system and many additional (and great) applications are included in the price. While the Mhz rating might not be on par with x86 hardware the current G4s perform very well in many benchmarks. Most people commenting on Apple hardware can't even tell you what a 700Mhz G4 feels like to use - It's fast! Not to mention the 128bit Velocity engine.

Support for non hardware experts is fantastic, if your home-built PC is playing up it can be many frustrating hours to find the cause. You can drop your Apple hardware off at a service centre they will find and fix the problem for you with no charge.

There is little that can't be done just as well on a Mac that can be done on a PC. Long live the Mac! icon_lol.gif

macs are good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SoVeReIgN
Any windows emulation on mac will run fucking slow.

as posted on another forum, im too lazy to write up another full post now so i'll just use my previous one.

If you have no fucking idea, then just stfu

1. Its not a Mac.. its an Apple Computer, and its also a PC, yes thats right, for all you un-enducated fags, PC stands for personal computer, which is;
QUOTE
personal computer
n. Abbr. PC
A computer built around a microprocessor for use by an individual, as in an office or at home or school.

2. Apple Computers have USB, AND Firewire (which was basically created by Apple, feel free to dispute) now as most of you know, this enables you to plug devices into your computer, hot swapable, now the chances are most of are using Microsoft USB optical mice plugged into your usb port, now as i stated, All new Apple computers have USB ports.. does this click inside your heads.. those mice you are using can be used on any newish Apple, and dont give me this "oh they dont come with the computer bullshit", how many new IBM- Compatable computers come with these mice (even though most the new Apple computers come with 3 button mice).

3. Non overclocking ability? just because Apple dont have the PC enthusiasts that the IBM- compatable world has does not mean that there is no ability, most people that use Apples are total retards, and dont have a clue what they are doing, i havent got the chance yet but many people have been able to overclock their g3s to the extreme as they dont have fans and run VERY cool.

4. When im in a bad mood, like now, dont mess with me.
tigger
1.stable
2. linux based
3.good hardware
4.Ilove macs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
5. much better windows is bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

7) I'm not a hippy
icon_cool.gif I'm not...err..."that way". Yeah.

WTF is Mac grouped in with UNIX, anyway? They only lately became associated with unix when they went to OS X. Otherwise, unrelated.

Yeah, have to disagree.

We bought 3 dual G5 Mac's this year. All 3 locked up and froze out of the box and were returned and exchanged. The next ones didn't lock right away, until we later added ram that we bought from Apple... all 3 started freezing up randomly. Returned again. The latest 3 seem to be ok, but man are they sluggish for the price and their supposed lightning fast processors.

Give me an AMD FX53 and XP any day over those things.
burntkat
Having worked with them in the Biometrics project I completed last year, I completely agree with Freyd. Had similar experiences with ours, out of the box.

Give me a midrange i386 or comparable running SuSE and it'll do everythng Macs do, faster, stabler, and cheaper.

"The computer for the rest of us" my ass!
