HEY GUYS!
I got these 2 files for S1 mp3 players (named $nanfla$.urg and $norfla$.urg)
and here are instructions how to use them:
1. Format your mp3 player, must choose “FAT” format (not “FAT 32”)
2. copy “$norfla$.ugr”file to portable disk(usb memory)
3. Unplug mp3 player, then the player shows “updating”
4. Plug the player in again.
5. copy “$NanFla$.ugr”file to portable disk(usb memory)
6. Unplug mp3 player, then the player shows “updating”
7. If upgrade succeeds, you may see “succeed” in the portable disk.
Now I haven't actually accomplished anything with this (but before all this I installed older firmware - which is probably why I now can't even try to reinstall latest firmware, but some of you just might revive yur S1 mp3 players), but at least my player is working stable as flash memory
o - here's the link for the above mentioned files/instrucions:

If anyone happened to had had a similar mistake like I did, and managed to revive both player and memory please post yur solutions so I could try

Wow - more strange things. I installed the previous program that updates the firmware - and this is what happens - the player doesn't shut down like it does with the latest version, but at the moment it starts to "try" to update the firmware, the 'Found New Hardware' wizzard pops up, and asks the USB device to be installed, (Im on XP) and after I proceed it asks for this file: adfuud.sys, which isn't on the cd that came with this player...
Anyone got slightest idea about this now? and how about that adfuud.sys - anyone got it?

Hiya
You need to unzip the files from the Cd included in the pack.
You cuts to unzip 3 times have the first zipped file contains has zipped file which contains another one.
Just launch the setup.exe.
You may cuts ace well to go one the setting shares of the usb key to update the key.
Windows XP ask you then to look for the file AdfuUd.sys which you find in c:/windows gold C:\Program Files\MP3 Player Utilities\RDiskUpdate\driver
It should work then! Hopefully!
I finally made it!!!
hope it helps!

I managed to find that file in c:\windows, and then I could've installed the USB device that wizzard was looking for. I also managed to update firmware after this (to 3.0.42 version) - however, the player is still dead... any idea what to do?

I always ask people why they upgraded their firmware in the first place. Was it to fix a problem? If no, then DON'T FIX IT IF IT ISN'T BROKE. If it was to fix a problem, and it failed, then DAMN, that sucks. There seems to be a rash of bad firmware upgrades for MP3 players in the last month. I guess if you buy cheap, and try to get more than what you paid for in the first place, then these things happen.

Lolz... i dunno why mine broke.. it worked.. then poof.. gone.... well i only had it for a couple of days, but my uncle who gave it to me(had it for a year). Do mp3 players suddenly dropped dead or have a used by date
I heard that flash memory only lasted bout 1000 writes or sumthing like that.....
the only firmware you should ever use is the branded ones, such as apple, creative.. Ones that have a website... and keep updating their firmware...
unbranded chinese OEM companies, seem to have lousy support, and even when they do answer, their no real help...
I asked em for firmware software, they asked me to isntall it without giving it to me

The ONLY time you should update firmware is when there is a problem with the player.....IF it works and does what it is suppose to do then you leave it alone....other wise Firmware should be a last resort....Im sure companies would take a unflashed player(returned) and wouldnt ask you any questions better that a flashed one.

We try hard to find solutions. Sometimes we can't offer a good one, but neither can alot of sites. We have alot of smart people here, but sometimes we are at a disadvantage on hardware or software we have had no experience with. We will try and find a solution though.

Well I wouldn't even consider of upgrading/degrading firmware - but I got my in defective state - wouldn't turn on...
I've got another question - has anyone here ever actually managed to revive the mp3 function (besides flash) with these or similar types of chinese mp3 players?

Can somebody please help me??????
I got a mp3 player yesterday.
I started to add music and in the middle of it all my comp asked that i format the drive so i did.
Afterwards it only used 46% of memory so i checked the system.
I accidently pressed upgrade firmware version instead of skipping past.
Now it wont even turn on.
It only says starting..... When i turn it on or connect it by usb.
My computer doesnt see it as a removable drive anymore so i cant even access it.
What can i do????
Please help/

I wish to point out that the s1mp3 project Wladston just mentioned has moved it's site.
We'r enow at:
www.s1mp3.orgWe're actually dedicated to making an opensource replacement firmware (which is veeeery slow work), but in the meanwhile, we're being generally nice people, and help others with their broken players.
I think it's safe to say we're te most knowledgable source on the web (save maybe the producer, but they're chinese) about the wilson s1mp3 player.
(among others: we have a collection of about a 100 different firmwares, which may or may not work for your player, but you can always try)
Hope it will be of use to you!

those wma's are probably encryoted with protection and licensing schemes from microsoft. I know of no way to get around that either.

This is what my technical support sent me (for fixing with ugr-files)
Recovery instruction:
1. Insert the MP3 player to the PC USB port as the removable hard-disk (U-disk) and wait 2 seconds, copy the "$norfla$.ugr" file to the U-disk and use mouse to click the U-disk icon. Press the right button of mouse to open the pull-down menu and select the “Eject” function. At that time, the player will be turn off and on again automatically to start the recovery process (don’t remove the player at that time). It will take around 5 to 8 seconds, then the U-disk icon (removable hard-disk) will be displayed again. Double click the icon, it will display the message of formatting, press “Confirm” to start disk formatting process.
Note : Under Windows 2000 and Windows XP system, please select FAT format, don’t select FAT32 format.
2. Afterwards, copy “$nanfla$.ugr” file to the U-disk, click the U-disk icon and press the right button of mouse to open the pull-down menu. Select the “Eject” function, it will display “F/W Updating…” message on the LCD of player. It takes around 5 to 8 seconds to do this process. If it is success, it will display “OK” message. Then, it can copy the MP3 files to the U-disk and listen the music.
Note : Don’t remove the player from the PC USB port or press the Mode key when the player display the message of “Busy…”.
3. Try to do the Copy and Delete function of U-disk. Copy two or more MP3 files to the U-disk and remove from the USB port.
Note : Don’t remove the player from the PC USB port when the player display the message of “Busy…”.
4. Put on the battery and the player will display “MP3 PLAYER”, it means the recovery process is done and you can enjoy the music now.
If it works, good luck!
