Look at the manual and see if there is a reset to default. Without a brand, it's hard to help.

If you updated the firmware, how did you do it without knowing the brand/model? Also, where did you update the firmware from?
Agent_177@hotmail.com
Feb 13 2005, 02:19 PM
i downloaded a program from a chinese website which said that it will upgrade the firmware on a sigmatel chip but it didnt say that it would f**k it up.
i have been trying to contact sigmatel about the problem but they wont reply.
if you want i can upload the program so you can check it out.

What I am having trouble here is with is, why if you have no manuel and don't know what brand or model it is, you would get the idea to flash it in the first place.
Am I the only one this doesn't make sence to? Maybe if you can get it back together you could post pictures of it. I have a D-Link ROQ-IT, but I left my hands off it, it works find after 3 years.

is this it? a Packard Bell AudioDream?

or a Packard Bell AudioKey?

Here is where to get the correct firmware for AudioDream if that is it:
http://service.packardbell.co.uk/items/?Pi...form_audiodreamThe link to download the drivers and firmware update is here:
http://service.packardbell.co.uk/items/?dw...0;AD35xx302.exeIf this is it re-flash it with the correct firmware (hopefully, the chipset was not fried)
install the correct drivers on your windows 98 (2000/XP not necessary)

A new firmware is not the holy grail, you can think of it as a specialized software. A new version can
only work with the hardware it was created for, and it will not necessarily add bonus functions, it may only consist of a few bugfixes.
And basically, flashing your player with a new frmware is about as risky as flashing a mobo BIOS, it can kill everything if you do it wrong.
BTW, if that stuff cost you a lot of money (i.e. you bought it) why don't you ask the vendor WTF it is?

Feb 15 2005, 09:07 AM
Downloading from a Chinese site (usually riddled with virri adn worms) is really not the place you want to get this stuff from. Be lucky that you can still use it as a usb hard drive.
Oh, one more thing, don't buy unbranded stuff if you are going to flash the firmware, get a real name-brand unit you can trust.
I am sorry but I cannot find anything on Google that matches you mp3 player. The best I could do was iPaq and that AudioDream.
Sorry.

Yes it said completed ok but still didn't power up i have also tried the reset method of holding the power button in and formating the drive using the software provided but still nothing it does see as if the power just dont go to the play but you can read and write to the mp3 player like its a mass storage divice from any pc it's very strange!

heres the link for inovix mp3 players... THIS MAY NOT BE YOUR BRAND, but i had succes with flashing their firmware in my generic mp3 player.. NO GUARANTEES if this will work for you.
Their website is * edited * (if you dont know what ur doing... then dont do anything, PLEASE!!)
I had a similar generic 256Mb usb stick/mp3 player and flashed it with INOVIX iMP-64 256MB firmware using their software utilities etc.
DO NOT DO ANYTHING BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD THE USER MANUAL AND READ THROUGH IT. I ONLY SUGGEST THIS METHOD IF YOU REALLY REALLY WANT YOUR MP3 PLAYER back. I had 2 other usb pen drives, so I went experimenting with my dud mp3 player and it just happened to work!
kalmark
Feb 24 2005, 01:54 PM
I don't suggest you to try just flashing "any" firmware on your player. As I stated above, it's more likely not to work.
Actually, reading the original question in this thread just gives you the reason why not to do that.

hey, here's a series of steps suggested by the guy who sold me my generic mp3 player... (Dont know why i didnt think of going to him earlier about my problem!!) but nevertheless, here are his suggestions:
1. Take out the battery from player.
2. Plug player in USB port of your computer.
3. If you use Win2000 or XP, open MyComputer from desktop and look for Removable Device representing the player drive.
4. Right click on the Removable Device and select Format in the pop up list.
5. Select FAT from the file system field and uncheck Quick Format box.
5. Click Start to format the player.
6. Start with downloading one MP3 file into the player after formatting. Please note: Only use MyComputer "Copy" & "Paste" function for file transferring. DO NOT use any other software for file transferring.
7. Eject the player properly from Windows.
8. Unplug the player off computer safely.
9. Install battery and see if it works
he also suggests that maybe the phone jack may have gone out, and when u think about it, that is a very good possibility in these cases!

well, if the headphone jack is gone, then forget playing mp3's anyway and use it as a flash drive

I have a similar problem. 256MB generic unbranded Hong Kong mp3 player. "upgraded" firmware screwed up the controls. It seems as though all the buttons have become scrambled. The "hold" function is "off" in the "on" position and vice versa, volume down button starts the record function. It still works as a storage device though. The ON button doesnt work, but when connected and then disconnected from the PC, the player stays ON and then I cant turn it off!
I've opened up the player and it has a chip with Samsung 446 written on it. Then k9F2G08U0M. The "firmware upgrade" software says that the device name is "S1 Mp3 Player" Productor [sic] Wilson Co. Ltd. Version 3.0.37.
Any help is greatly appreciated. There is a similar thread at
http://www.fileforums.com/showthread.php?t=67337 which has ground to a halt.

Hi guys !
I'm french so i hope i won't make mistakes when i will explain.
I had a sigmatel 3500 to, it's a noname mp3 player.
It should be a usb2 player, with 512Mb.
because the usb was working at usb1 and not usb2, i wanted to upgrade the firmware...
I used the link given below, by kryptkpr (
http://www.inovixeu.com/UK/ ), and i take the INOVIX iMP-33 512MB because mine don't play FM...
finally, it only works at usb1.
the mp3 player works fine, but nothing is shown on the screen, and like shytalk, the buttons have been scrambled..
I wanted to know if someone knows other mp3 player with Sigmatel 3500, to find other firmwares

thx

I actually import these generic players.
All firmware files are different for different models.
If you bought one from me, and then buggered it up its not my fault right?
It can be fixed, but it really isnt the guys fault who sold it to you.

BUT it seems like SOMEHOW they get this IDEA to upgrade the firmware

HOW about telling these peeps NOT to upgrade the firmware....UNLESS ALL ELSE FAILS...THEN I would consider you not responsible after 15 days...yea 15...alot of shit can happen after 15 days...but I can imagine with that attitude of "its not my fault...I just sell them" isnt gonna change. but this is just IMO

ok here goes nothing
Samsung 504
K9k4g0800m

Ok please let sid this as said above if anyone can fix it he can
Oh one more thing a colleuge at work mentioned his brothers mp3 player had a "table" on it which was like a hidden file which gave the player a "map for the keys"
I think he meant some think a bit like a keyboard map eg what should happen when volume key pressed. well not sure but just to let you know mine is completely blank even when i view hidden files.

ive learnt ages ago that firmware is full off bullcrap esp. if the company doesnt have a website... sometimes its worth paying more for a superior branded company

Hi All,
I am new to this Forum.
I have the same S1 MP3 Player as Numnuts, the same writing the front, even the same colour, except that mine is a 1GB. I haven't opened it yet because I have only had it a month. The player has FM Tuner, 7 colour display, Rec Function and Telephone Book.
I upgraded mine and now it doesn't work. The firmware currently installed is - S1 Mp3 Player - Wilson .Co .Ltd - 3.0.42, the original (I think). Before I upgraded or more to the point downgraded, as the lower version (Wilson Co. Ltd. 3.0.25) had an extra feature that I wanted (FM Tuner auto scan signal strength), the firmware was Wilson .Co .Ltd. 3.0.42. I got the downgrade from
Wilson .Co .Ltd Firmware. The 3.0.42 Firmware link doesn't seem to be correct, when downloaded and loaded into the MP3 Player Update Tool it reads 3.0.25, the same as the firmware in the link above on the web site. I think I managed to get it elsewhere but I am not sure if it's the correct one. In the update instructions that came with my MP3 Player, it says there should be a recovery firmware file in "(install directory)\recover", and its name is $ACTSDK$.FW, but I can't find it anywhere. Maybe the Mini CD software is not correct for my MP3 Player. The Mini CD is Light Blue with MP3 Player writen at the top, also with 3 big stars at the bottom, loads of little stars at the top, and to the left of the CD is a back to front P (left to right), inside the back to front P and at the bottom is an X.
After each time I downgraded and upgraded I had to format the flash/drive before the PC would recognise the MP3 Player as a Removable Disk.
When battery is inserted or when plugged into the USB port it stays on all the time, I have to unplug or remove battery to turn it off.
The screen is blank but flashes 3 different colours (Red, Purple and light Blue) when powered up. The screen also changes between 2 colours (Red and Purple) when Rev, Forward, Mode, Vol + and Vol - buttons are pressed, but nothing else happens when the buttons are pressed.
I can use the MP3 player as a USB Memory stick but I think it will be a waste of money.
As Mandark and Numnuts mentioned further up this topic, could there be hidden files that I have to add to the MP3 Player for the Screen, Buttons and for playing the MP3/WMA files. I have noticed that there seems to be more space available now then when I first received the MP3 Player.
Any help will be very much appreciated. Thanks.

sorry m8, but how did u do that?
I've bought a mp3 player (like almost all of yours) which was not working on mp3 mode because of wrong firmware uplaoded by previous owner (though the LCD lighted on and showed the menu but buttons were not working)...
ive' tried the utilities like the one you all mentioned and saw that the fw on was 3.0.42, so I decided to try to revert to 3.0.25 to see if it worked, but now I only get it recognized by Win XP as MP3 player, LCD doesn't light on anymore and it does not work as flash USB anymore since it is not recognized...
I think i've lost all now...
how do you format it to make it recognize as Flash USB Disk if it is not seen by XP?
thanks for help

please tell me which chip your mp3 player has (mine is a ATJ2085) and how much memory it has...
tell me the fw you see with mp3 utilities and i will try to help you to recover it
(yesterday night I lost it another time while trying different firmware to solve my probl, it was just seen as usb pen and mp3 utility to update fw didn't recognize it...now i've just recover it again...but still have the same probl as before:
the MODE switch when turned left or right doesn't make the cursor move, when pressed it show the first song for 1 sec and then a "Bye Bye" on screen and the player shutdown. The only way to Switch it on is to remove and put back the battery....any idea? is it an hw probl or a fw one? the strange is that yesterday just after flashing the fw it recovered it, the player worked...i tried vocal recorder and mp3 player and it worked, then I switched it off and 1 hour later it just didn't worked anymore...if someone has ideas they are welcome....
i cant find any chip number on it . it is a 256mb S1 Mp3 Player - Wilson .Co .Ltd - 3.0.42 the problems are it does not turn on unless it is plug into my pc, and then the hold button is reversed and when u unplug it it stays on but the icons tell me it has got fm radio which it has not got and will only go into recording mode once in recording mode it wont turn off the only way i can get to turn off is by taking the battery out and then it wont turn back on once you have put the battery back in
