WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Final test results of a U.S. beef animal suspected of having mad cow disease may not be complete until early next week, Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns said on Thursday.
U.S. and British scientists are re-testing the suspect animal, which tested positive for the brain-wasting disease earlier this month.
"It could be by the end of the week. It could be the first of next week," he told reporters after speaking at an unrelated event. "I haven't heard of anything that has changed my view on that."
