Ok my friend has a wireless NIC in his computer and I was on it last night and saw he was getting REALLY bad singel strenth. Is there some way to take the entena off and put some wire in between the plug and the antena? What type of wire would you use? Could I just get some coax?
Yeah I don't know the card make or if the entena can come off, I assume it can... Why would it not...

i had one of those (trendnet (cheap) brand, i think)... then i tossed it and went back to my wired connection. Its just that the noise factor in any given location is too high during the day for these things, and at night, the performance is only sub-par at best, even at 80+% signal strength. The antenna does usually screw off of these things but it may depend on what make and model you have. If there is a way to boost performance from these, I would be very interested in learning about it as well!

Adding an access point and setting it to Range Extender mode and placing it closer to the comp will boost the signal.

MC;
I have built this antenna for my notebook, looks like twin truckers on each side of the lid
http://wireless.gumph.org/content/4/3/011-...ss-antenna.htmlI am going to build this one for the router...
http://flakey.info/antenna/omni/quarter/But yes you can get some 50 ohm coax and matching connectors and splice in an extender cable...
Lots of info out there, depending on how much time and effort you want to take building an antenna... Some are rather detailed, DiPoles and Yagi's with measurements to 2 decimal places in millimeters...
One day I want to build this waveguide out of household rain gutter downpipe
