That's right, as of the 1st, I'm unemployed. Seems the government, in their infinite wisdom decided to neither re-compete our contract, nor re-award it. This is indeed illegal, but the legal costs to my company to fight it would have exceeded the contract amount, and the government knew that. So, the company that the contract was given too, decided NOT to hire the core people. That's a huge mistake on their part, as I don't think they realize the scope of this system, and without the core people, it will crash, because the people they did hire do not know all the parts that make it go. I will be taken care of, have several resumes out, but will have the last laugh when the system goes down and they are charged $1mil a day for training loss for 900 students and work stoppage for the two contractors that write the courseware. This is a prime example of "cranial rectitus".

Stress wise, unexpected loss of a (career type) job ranks up with divorice/death of an extended family member/major injury-illness
Take time for your mental and physical health, relax, and be positive. The right opportunity will show up.

Wow man, tough news. I thought this was a joke or something and didn't look at the forum placement until just now.
Sorry to hear Ace.

Put it this way. I have talked to someone who was just there. The base has everything, and there will be no need to leave it. Besides, 1 year's pay will pay off all my bills, including house, so when I come back, I'll never have to work again.

I CANNOT beleive I'm reading all this!!!!! ACE!!! Don't go! AND COZ!!!! You should know better, we've discussed this. I'm not letting you outta my site!!!! You served your time. Stop asking for connections to go back!!!!! OMG, OMG, OMG!
I am very proud of every single one of you who has and still is fighting for our country. The money may look really good considering those 6 digit incomes at the end, but the truth is, your lives are priceless!!!! Maybe I'm selfish and wrong to want to keep those who touch my life close to me. But everything about this war (and the last, and any other war) scares me to death, all the threats of bio-crap, etc, etc, etc, I can barely get through the show "Over there", and just knowing some terrible truths as to what really goes on there,....no, oh no....no,no,no,no,no! You just never know whats gonna happen, there are NO GUARANTEES! I can barely watch the news anymore, let alone knowing there is someone over there I'm familiar with.
Ace, didn't you tell me you were in the medical feild? Maybe I'm a lil lost and confused, but i don't like this topic. I've got to go now, I can't think.

Very well said Viper. I have talked to people who have been over there and the press is really not painting the 'real' picture. They only report what sells and the positives don't sell, and that is a sad thing.

Thanks Viper, and everyone else, but Queen BW is right, there is always worry and concern. I know you guys are doing one hell of a job over there, and yes, the news sucks, but there is some reality to it. And my reality is the fear that Coz would be willing to give his life to fight for our country, as you all would, otherwise you wouldn't be there. I guess I am being very selfish but quite honestly, I don't know how any of you do it! I grew up under a retired Marine Sgt., the word proud doesn't even begin to describe how he feels about the military and our country. I know Coz is the same way, it must be something they instill in you, some kind of bond the military has that no one can ever really understand unless you are apart of it. I do honor that and respect it. But Coz is talking all kinds of crazy crap lately,(about going back in the military or getting some kind of computer/security job) I'm just not ready for. I know everyone has to do what they have to do. Military is one thing, if you make it your career, so be it, that is very honorable, but to go over there for a 6 or 12 month stint just for dollar signs you may never see is another. Like I said, life is priceless, every single one of you, I just am very scared for you all and knowing my man faught the first war and made it back alive, I am against him going back. I've heard the horror stories from him. I'd rather have him baggin groceries for peanuts then try to get his hands on money like that. To me, the money isn't worth it.
If you guys are all gonna be down there (in VA) when me and Coz are on vacation, I (we) would really, really like to meet all of you and, yes, give Ace a proper fairwell. (we will party all night long) We will be arriving down there on Sept. 8th and leaving Sept. 12th. Lets try and plan something, it would be nice to put some names with faces. I'd upload you guys my photo but each time I try I get an error (and Coz won't help me)!!!

Ginger, I can understand how you feel. It's not about the money so much, as supporting my family. When a job dries up, and you can't get employment at even half the pay it takes to pay your bills, and moving would cause you to lose your shirt, then the survival instinct kicks in. I gotta support my family, and they come before me. I can do this, done it before, 22 year veteran, and wife married me knowing what she was getting into, being a military brat herself. And I would be honored if you peeps came down to visit when I'm in Virginia.

I know Ace, I should just keep my mouth shut. I usually end up getting myelf in trouble, Coz will vouch for that! I do just worry very much about all this kind of stuff and the people who risk their lives everyday. I wish you all the best, I' sure you are good at what you do, (22 year vet and all). I just hate to see you go, but I will take Vipers word it, (about the detroit comment) I'm just a mother hen I guess. I can't wait to meet you!!! I 'm gonna give you the biggest damn hug! According to MapQuest it's a 2 hour Drive from Williamsburg to Fredricksburg (what is up with all the "Burgs" in VA? They run out of names for thier towns?) so, in
Cop Speed Mode it should probably only take 1 and 1/4 hours to get there. Providing of course, I don't let Ginger read the map, then we will get lost, so tack another 2 hours total time onto the trip.
We are also coming back on the 11th, not the 12th like she said. Do you see what I have to put up with on a daily basis with her?

It's a good thing she is good looking otherwise..... <RUNS>

Hey, don't listen to him, I can read maps just fine! It's his driving we all need to worry about. Maybe if he wasn't driving at mock 5 he'd be able to make all the correct turns I tell him, but he misses them and then blames me!

You should be in the car with him, I feel like I'm in one of those space crafts from Battle Star Galactica! I hold on to the dash and scream the whole way!!!

(And check my undies after every trip!!!!

)
And I pay the price when I'm wrong about lil things (like the 11th, he is right, god I hate saying that.) I'll be hearing about this for at least a week! He'll be asking me "who's the man" at least a cazillion times, and then I'll have to lie and tell him its him, but we all know who really rules here don't we?!
Hey, Ace in a thong?!?!?! Can't wait! I'll get um' good and drunk for ya boys, we'll be sure to get photos!
