Tiny in my opinion for a software firewall.

I use the free version of ZoneAlarm, in conjunction with my Netgear router and Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition. I like the fact that ZoneAlarm tells me when an application is trying to connect from my PC to the Internet, giving me the opportunity to stop it before it makes its connection! I also use Ad-Aware to check for trojans, spyware, and other types of 'phone-home-ware'.

ldonyo, why ya using a software firewall with the netgear router? I have a netgear cable router and it's very secure.

I would say Tiny is the best, but if you are not familiar with firewalls it isn't for you.

I use ZAP and have never been disappointed. I like the easy setup and the fact that I always know what is coming and especially what is going.

Tiny gets my vote. It is so small, you will never notice ANY performance degredation.
It also works with my hardware firewall so I can still use my Serv-U FTP server.
It has a "sandbox" so nothing can execute out side it for security. Complex rules are completly flexible/creatable.
It will let NOTHING alter the registry or system files unless you specifically create rules as to what software is allowed to do that.. So even if you do not patch IE and go to those bad sites that embed executable code and take advantage of IE's many huge security holes.... nothing can execute outside its sandbox.. and your filesystem and registry are completly protected.
All this and the fact that it is ICSA certified.... What else need you know?

Built on ICSA-certified security technology, it is also an integral part of Tiny Software's Centrally Managed Desktop Security (CMDS) system selected by the US Air Force for its approximately 500,000 desktop computers.
