Hey, my problem is that when i try to run certian 3d programs like ....3DMark 2005, i get some weird effect on the bottom and right edges, i have a picture to show you sho you can see what i mean, this used to happen on my old HP computer when i played splinter cell. In this computer i have a x800XL (256mb) and 1gig DDR2 Ram, so it shouldn't be either of those.

See the weird stuff on the right edge and bottom edge?

Very nice mate!

is it only around the edges? nothing in the main screen? ive seen it before on the whole screen like a chess board effect, on an GF 6800, but that was because someone tried to enable extra pipes... have you used the ATI catalist drivers, are you using any overclock software?
KFraser
Its just on the bottom edge and the right edge, nowhere else. so far i found 3dmark05 and Splinter Cell Pandora Tommorow get those problems, SC:PD is worse though i'll see if i can get a pic of that...when i do i'll update this post.

its only during game play. Pause menus and menus are fine for it

What's your refresh rate set to? Also, make sure Fast Writes is turned off in the BIOS.
KFraser
Since 3dmark 05 wasn't working right i tried 3dmark 2001 (7973 with msn, firefox and bitcomet open) the graphics in that work fine, i already put that the refresh rate was 75hertz. i'll check that fastwrite thing next time i restart, but i don't know what that does anyway
AthlonGod
have you used the ATI catalist drivers, just to rule out a problem with the omega drivers, also are you using any overclocking software or is the CPU or Ram overclocked? also might seem a silly question, but what is you PSU wattage? I think ( i could be wrong that that demo in 3d mark uses Unified lighting and shadowing and stencil shadows, it might just be a problem with that? EG do DX 8 games work ok?)
KFraser
I Haven't used Catylist drivers for very long on this computer, my friend installed omega drivers on this computer like 2 days after i finished it, saying that its amazing for games and yadda yadda, when i get time after my exam at 12:15 atlantic time i'll try installing catylist drivers.

edit: well i should be studying, but instead i installed the newest catylist driver. still no change for splinter cell. i have to do like a complete rebuild of this system or somthing its not performing at all like i want it. everything is messing up at once, im going crazy lol, last night my 1 month old benq fp783 monitor started to sound like it was sizzling.

the only overclocking software thats on this is ATI Tray Tools my card is running at 398:493 (bios defaults 400:490 i think) and thats what it was when i installed the software, i didn't even try to overclock.

Antec Smartpower 450w, i check the individual line voltages and there all whats reccomended or just a little above

Edit(wow, third time): With the Catylist drivers the edges in 3dmark 05 are a lot less noticable but still there, splintercell(PT) is still really bad like the picture
AthlonGod
Download and try this program Driver Cleaner Pro use it to remove the ATI drivers, as this SHOULD pic up the omega ones too. After you have run it reboot and do it agian.. reboot one last time and then you can install the newest Catalist drivers. I hope this works for you! icon_biggrin.gif

Fixed, thanks Athlongod and everyone else who inputed, i used that program and ran it like 5 time (overkill) to make sure everything ATI related was gone. installed new catylist driver and everything is all good now

Nice. Glad for you. icon_smile.gif

Glad i was of help to you!

Damn looks like I'm late. Yea, when you have a graphic issue in one game, and not another its almost always your drivers. A lot of people don't understand that when you upgrade your drivers, for instance you are supposed to un-install your previous install before updating the drivers. When you overlap stuff like that it can almost never yield nice results... stupid things can go wrong you might not suspect that of causing i.e, what you said above. Out of curiosity, is this the first card on that install of the system? Or did you come from a nVidia perhaps?
KFraser
Ahhh, i usually just install right over, i'll make sure i do that from now on. This system was built in early september it only ever ran on ATI, on my old HP pc i had before this i went through about 4 graphics cards. only 1 being an nVidia.
