I just bought a Wilson Co. ltd. Mp4 player, black & chrome, small, has one little button on the top face. It is a 1Gb player, and so far i have 125 songs on it. It has a few menu options like: music, record, voice, setup, e-book, phonebook, movies, etc.. As i copy music onto it from my computer, eventually an error comes up saying: "the directory or file cannot be created". however, when i go into the "setup" menu, and go into "memory info" its says i have a 990 mg capacity, but it is only at 63% usuage. no matter what music i delete and replace on teh player, it will only let me fill it to 63%. There are no partitions on the device for encrypted files. Is there ANY way i can get access to this missing 37% of my mp3 player's memory??? thats another 100 songs i could put on. please respond any comments to splurge_@hotmail.com. thanks.

If you read the instruction manuel, it probably will tell you the file system probably will only handle 125 files, although it's probably 127 as that a digital thing the next step would be 256 if it had better chips.

what? im not sure i understand that. the instruction manual was translated poorly form chinese, and didnt mention anything about only handling 125 files. all the songs are in a "root" file folder on the player, i tried to make a new folde,r but it also wouldnt let me. could you please explain what you were thinking again?

What is most likely happening is that the communication via the USB connection is timing out.

You can disable the Write-Back caching on that unit. That happens all the time with my Archos POS MP3 player and that thing is a 20 GB hard drive. Setting up the device for quick removal will most likely solve the communication timeouts if that is indeed the problem.

If you need to know how to do what I told you above, please post back and I'll let you know how to do it.

If your unit is working and playing music, please, please, please, do NOT mess with it. Many people at this forum have "upgraded" thier Wilson Co player into a piece of unoperable junk.

Here is a quick list of do's and don't to keep in mind when dealing with Wilson Co.'s MP3 players:

1. Don't flash it
2. Dont read the manual. Throw it away as it is erroneous and leads users to destroy the unit.
3. Use it for what it is. that is all it is. nothing more. There are no extras or hidden capabilities. To the contrary, the unit is not even able to do what they say it can in most cases.
4. See number 1,2 and 3
5. See 1, 2, 3 and 4
6. See 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5
7. Wash, rinse and repeat ad nauseum

In short, DO NOT upgrade in any way the software on that device if you intend to use it for listening to music or as a USB drive.
