Full Version: Wireless networking issue...

Okay here's the story, in our new house there is no cable outlet in our computer room, so I decided that we would go wireless, as we already had the wireless router (for my laptop). I went out and purchased 2 cheapo (Encore ENLWI-G) wireless cards for our 2 desktops. The one in the wife's comp works absolutely perfect, but mine on the other hand will not stay connected for more than 10-15 minutes at the most. I have tried everything short of a full system reinstall to clear up any issues (including driver cleanup to make sure nothing was sticking in the system). Wired mode works perfectly, but wireless just will not stay connected.

Here is the info on the hardware we have:

Router: D-Link DI-524 Revision C secured with WPA-PSK
Network card (in question above): Encore ENLWI-G

After doing some looking online, I have found that there is no one with the same issue that I am having with this card in particular, or if they are they are not saying so. What I would like to know is, does anyone have any suggestions as for something to try to get me wireless, as I don't enjoy running a cable across my hallway.. lol

Ok, here is my take: wiring in the house does interfere with the wireless. Also does 2.4 ghz phones and microwave ovens. I switched my cordless phones for 5.8 ghz and wireless works perfect. It may not be yours, but maybe your neighbors.

I have a 5.8 ghz phone here, I'm just kinda wondering if it may be a chipset conflict cause the wifes is working perfectly, while mine is screwy...

try switching cards between the computers.
if the wifes machine still works perfectly , it eliminates that card as defective, and limits the cause to your hardware/software, exact location (blocked/weak signal?), or interferance (wiring, large motors, some fluorescent lights, microwaves, other Wlan's etc)

I tried switching the cards around, and hers does the same thing in my machine that the other one was.. strangely the one I had originally works perfectly in her machine.. damn cheapo network cards.. lol

On a side note, both computers are within 4 feet of one another, and are within 10 feet of the wireless router. (maybe I should mention these things before I finish my first post huh? lol)

Well, to kinda rehash this question again, I have done some more searching, and the chipset on this card in particular is the Marvell Libertas 8335. I have searched around, and found the OEM drivers, installed them, and the same issue persists. It'll connect, and it'll go at a decent speed, and then after 5-20 minutes it won't send or recieve any data at all, despite saying that I am connected, and have full signal. I have switched the cards around again, moved the computers around, and even reinstalled windows to try and figure this out, as it is something that I need to get fixed so I can finish wiring up the house.. ^_^

Right about now I am considering trying a different brand of card to see if that will make any difference, as all the looking I have done says that the chipset on this card in particular is one of the most stable out there. (Doesn't seem that way to me)

Not cheap cards, but something different with your computer, or it is located too close to some interference, you could try moving it or being that close WHY haven't you gone wired?

who knows maybe this will give you an idea.. http://www.microsoft.com/athome/moredone/wirelesstips.mspx

Maybe try to direct the signal towards the computers ... http://www.popsci.com/popsci/how20/c50a9aa...ecbccdrcrd.html

I've had this problem too and the only thing that has resolved my issue was the Odyssey Wireless client. The 30 day trial period has expired on it and now im searching for something else that will do the trick.

I've done the switch as well since i also have two of these cards and have had the same results. I think it's not the card but our cheap motherboards that are causing the conflict. I'm running in the AsRock P4V88 with a celeron
