I think the (find a pic), (word association), and the (end with a question ) topics should be dumped.
Most of the time its the only post made on a day to day basis. I thought maybe if they werent there that the regulars would post at least something usefull. I wont go into detail on this, but it just seems like a large waste of space and time. And its a distraction from what a tech forums about. winkiss.gif
AceHigh
I would tend to agree. They've outlived their "usefullness".

Where do you think my post count came from?

I guess I don't see the harm. It also helps with google hits and google image hits. fragend013.gif

Thers no harm buddy, it just that you guys are capable of so much more. We've gotten lazy and it shows. The forum is basicaly dead. We all have moved on to our on lives and it shows. I just miss the old days when we all went toe to toe with each other and our passion for computers showed every day. I use to look forward to checkin the forum everyday, now I do it out of habit. I dont downplay the effort made by you guys that post news, keep things runnin smooth, and always find time to do what needs to be done. thumbup1.gif

The fact that I only got 2 replys to this post just reinforces my point. Dont know what it will take to fire this place up...but wanna try....and no Bull Im not postin pics of Ace naked....those are just for me. winkiss.gif

I have read it amd am undecided , some 3-4 peeps enjoy it
i am 50-50 here , whatever you want to do is fine with me fer sure. fragend013.gif
AceHigh
Well, that's what this forum here is all about....... to discuss these things and get a general consensus.
bull
There is no doubt that things have been slow for a long while. I am looking for ideas around the net to give us some life. I found a blog system for IPB that was interesting...see if members want to start that and see if that brings more in...just thinking. fragend013.gif

Hmmm ... Brain farts can be uncomfortable, especially if your wearing a steel pot on ones' nog-concussion stuff! shocking.gif
Checked out several sites for fun, and what appears to be a universal complaint was found alive, but not well! So, picked one of the larger ones (computer sites) by typing in Google - Computer Forums. Noticed that their 'Forum' was noted as "Social Lounge" with hits running as noted, 6,503 - 142,978 , and The General Computer Hardware and Software range was, 20,532 - 182,919. Listed their complete run of areas so that to compare, and perhaps contrast these areas, might indicate some of the interests of the members in terms of their response. Did notice that many of the other sites were not doing well at all with considerably less membership input-some sites apparently, retained initial membership by making many members into mods, that communicated with each other. Some sites had the owners coming up with all the topics to discuss for the members, which was clipped from The AP, or Google like engines. In terms of dumping threads, and areas that seem non-productive, it may be of interest to do the Blog trip that bull noted, and if that feature becomes successful, the other areas may either become more viable because of new members, or if not, threads can be stored until some future date if wished. tongue_smilie.gif

I object to the occurrence of this brain fart. This brain fart is a travesty. It's a travesty of a mockery of a sham of a mockery of a travesty of two mockeries of a sham. I move for keeping the threads!

plus they make me laff! icon_mrgreen.gif

I'm not around here much, usually about once a week. But when I do show up, the three game threads are typically the only ones with any new posts, other than news items from the front page. Yeah, there might be a random post in one of the tech forums, but for the most part if it weren't for the games, there wouldn't be any new posts at all.

Of course, all forums are slowing down lately, some more than others.

Sadly, tech issues are the nuts and bolts of tech forums... but if nobody's having any tech issues, and there's nothing else here to look at on a recurring basis, there's no reason to come. This is nobody's fault - everybody gets burnt out on simply upping their post count... as well as others get burnt out when some are posting JUST to up their post count.

It wouldn't be an alphabet without all of the letters... and this wouldn't be a thriving community without all of the thoughts that are regularly posted by the regular members. If I have a tech issue, this is one of the first places I look for advice or to see if something's been covered already. If not, I check the social blood pressure.

As a result of seeking tech advice, I've met a lot of cool people online, and I like to keep up with those people when I can. Whether the decision to keep this place as a 'tech-only' forum comes about, keep in mind that the people who want to keep up with each other still need a place to go for that. Life doesn't run on 'tech info' alone. And if there's no posting here outside of technical issues, then people are posting about other stuff somewhere else... which means less hits to the tech site.

So there either has to be the whole gamut of thoughts and exchanges here, or it'll have to settle for what it gets when a tech issue comes along.

One thing to consider is the aging of the whole forums concept. Remember what happened to dial-up BBS's when newsgroups came about? How about newsgroups when IIRC and forums came about. And now thanks to blogs, online chat, VOIP, Nationwide Long-Distance, and other technologies are gaining in popularity, the forums on the whole may actually become a shadow of what they were just a few short years ago. Not even the mighty Tech Zone is enjoying the traffic flow it once had.

Sites like this need to grow with the times, and Bull's got one idea. Another thought might be to go on a recruiting crusade. There might be some success in adding some other features yet to be discovered or even a couple of already realized features but just do them better than other sites. Who knows. But once the novelty wears off, people will need something new to keep them interested. Think about some of the other sites you frequent and come up with a list of the things you like about the ones you go to most often... and then figure out how to incorporate some of those features, but do them better. Who knows - the 4peeps spin on blogging (for instance) might be the next big thing.

It's not my call... it's not my site. But just my observations concerning an ongoing mindset.
