(concerning a knock-off ipod nano 512 mb, no name or company listed on it)
I had just bought this today, and the battery died while I was checkin it out once I got it home. Well, it says to charge it while it's on, but how the heck are you supposed to turn it on to charge if it died? Well, I eventually got it on, after many tries, and put it on the charger. So it sat there for about 5-6 hours. I figured it should be done by then so I took it off the charger. Bam, the screen goes black, like it turned off. Well, it did apparently, and it wants to stay that way. I've tried holding the [play/stop] button like the cheesy manual says to, I've tried charging it on the wall and on my computer, I've let it sit and then try to switch it on, still nothing.
What can I do?

Carefully dissasemble the unit and try to charge the battery the oldskool way: connect a suitable DC power supply to it (check the polarities carefully) and leave it connected for a couple hours.

You can set your supply to a higher voltage than the battery (eg 12v on a 3v battery) and leave it for just a few minutes to give it that extra buzz it needs to power the unit to do a normal charge.

IMPORTANT: CONNECT THE POWER DIRECTLY TO THE BATTERY, NOT TO SOMEWHERE ON THE PCB, ELSE YOU'LL FRY THE PLAYER.

You can also try to run your player that way, because the battery acts as a filter and doesn't let excess voltage go to the unit. But keep your supply at the battery voltage if you try to power on though, it doesn't hurt to be extra cautious icon_wink.gif

before going inside the circuit of your mp3 player..try this one..

there is a slide switch on other mp4/3 players for power other then the used to be holding the play/pause button.. when you charge the unit while the slide switch is turned off... the unit will still be turned on but it wont charge the battery..(thats why if you suddenly remove the connectiuon the power will instantaneously go out)..just make sure that thew slide switch is on the "on".. then plug it into the charger..you can see that the symbol is like a sleeping mode....you know..ZZZzzZZ.. approx. 1-3hrs of charging depending on the unit... and try it again...goodluck.. by the way heres another one... there is a feature on most mp4/3 players caled screensaver...the function is there is prset time that the player will turn off its screen when no button is pressed on the preset time...ithe player sees turned off but tactually the pl;ayer is on its screensaver mode.......see yah... i h
