Man, I saw a screen of someone's connection on the forums. I really feel like crap now. This is about my best.

You are talking about Vegetto's connection. Well, he's on cable, so it was only showing the internal lan speed. He's got a 10baseT NIC, but his internet connection isn't near that fast. Here's mine, and my cable is only 1.2 meg:

sometimes my lines get that bad and I don't even get that decent of a connection. When the lines get bad, really bad, i'm lucky to see downloads faster than 1KB/sec

ive got 2000/384 cable internet here...its through timewarner. they run through the AOL servers so the pings arent godly...but they arent bad either

I've been after the phone company for about 4 years now to get DSL here. Every community around us can get DSL. We are right in the middle of what is like a dead zone but there is a swtiching office just about 3 miles down the road. The real hangup I feel is the poor line quality which they won't fix until enough people in my township complain, which will end up being about never.

If only people knew the advantages to the $50 a month price tag. The price scares them away and they won't even consider the advantages like always on (no real dialing up) and the speed benefits. I wish some people weren't so ignorant to broadband :/

I agree. I went to cable when it was in it'e infantsy here. Down alot, but since they upgraded to digital, it's been pretty sweet. I hope you get broadband soon. You will NEVER go back. But hope the whole community doesn't switch at the same time or the bandwidth will be overwhelmed.

I pull up to 2.0Mbps, but I have no idea what the upstream rate is. I'm sure it's no better than 384kbps.

i also have the onboard intel NIC, but it is used for my wireless in home network.

just rumors i heard, but if you have it on half-duplex it supposidly is "better." so i just turned it from 100 full, to 10 half. its nice and speedy all the time so i'm not complaining.
