Relax SurGen we'llget you through this...lol.
Let me ask a couple obvious questions -
1. have you tried using your headphones? Maybe the speakers aren't working.
2. You started with integrated audio from the motherboard yes? did you disable onboard audio in the BIOS?
Peap
Jun 3 2007, 09:04 AM
well no, haven't tried headphones yet...will do today
and isn't it true when you load the software for the soundcard that it automaticaly diables the onboard?
if not?...I spose I could try the onboard again
uNtOldPAIN
Jun 3 2007, 10:53 AM
did you disable the onboard sound card in BIOs
Peap
Jun 3 2007, 09:49 PM
no...will do that
but still having problems with the driver....
I look in device manager and Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatiblilty Driver
has the exclamation point
JTancsi1
Jun 4 2007, 09:53 AM
No, you usually have to disable onboard sound. If Windows is loading drivers for both sound devices, neither will work.
Peap
Jun 4 2007, 10:50 AM
but the driver was already disabled since that's the reason I got the sound card in the first place. I couldn' get any sound period from this computer unless it's from the board speaker...and "beep" is getting to be annoying.
JTancsi1
Jun 4 2007, 12:55 PM
it's not the driver you have to disable...it's the actual hardware. you have to "turn off" the integrated audio hardware so that it is not detected by windows when you boot, and those drivers won't be loaded.

ok, sorry, I was not really getting what you were saying there...my bad...

taking a look at your motherboard's BIOS under the Advanced Menu - look for Onboard Audio and set it to disabled
Change the on-board sound setting in the BIOS
1. Look at the back of the computer and use one of the following three items to determine the proper sound configuration and sound setting. Read all three items before making your choice.
*If the sound connectors for the speakers and microphones are located next to the parallel, serial, or USB ports, then the computer has on-board sound. The on-board sound setting in the BIOS should be Enabled.
*If the sound connectors for speakers and microphone are located away from the other ports and sit in an area by themselves, the computer has a soundcard. If the BIOS lists an audio setting, the on-board sound setting in the BIOS should be Disabled.
* If the PC has sound connectors in both locations the on-board sound setting should be Disabled.
2.To enter the BIOS, turn on the computer and press the F10 key repeatedly at the first logo screen.
A BIOS Setup screen opens.
3. Use the Left and Right Arrow keys to select the Advanced tab.
4. Find and select the advanced menu items that correspond to audio. This may be one of the following:
* Onboard Audio
* Onboard Audio Options
* I/O Device Configuration
* On-Board Sound
* Audio
* Audio Codec
5. Select either Enabled or Disabled depending on the computer configuration and press Enter.
* For example, if the computer only has on-the-motherboard sound connectors, make sure onboard audio is Enabled
* For example, if the computer is using a sound card, make sure onboard audio is Disabled.
6. Press F10 and then press Enter to save and exit.
7. Start the computer and check for sound.

OK, in the link below are listed a few more areas to check out. The advise given above is terrific stuff, and indeed very rich-never guessed the down side of this area. But hopefully, this may give you some more ideas. Start off at 8.2.
Good luck!

I feel your frustration SurGen...don't throw the computer through a wall yet.
Have you tried just deleting Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driver from the Device Manager and then re-booting?
Also, in MMC services - (Start, Run, services.msc ) scroll down to Windows Audio and make sure it is enabled .
