Must not be many Vista users here since this forum does not have many threads. I am running Vista but I am not very impressed with it. I am so tempted to go back to XP or even install Kubuntu icon_smile.gif

Use XP at the office-supplied. But, currently still use 2000 Pro for personal network. Vista apparently requires a little more work. May check out the Penguin systems - as time and energy permits. icon_smile.gif

You may get more action and response on this topic if you changed the title to reflect the true nature of the post. Just a thought. icon_wink.gif

It's amazing how after 5 years, they still didn't get it "right." I've read some reports that Vista is argumentative with Office 2007. What a great way to make inroads, your brandy new OS won't work with your brandy new Office Suite. icon_rolleyes.gif

M$ has become too big and bloated as a company, therefore their OS and main apps have followed suit. What a shame. BeOS 5.01 anyone? icon_biggrin.gif

For good ongoing coverage of Vista/Office 2007 go to www.chaosmanorreviews.com. Dr. Jerry Pournelle, one of my favorite sci-fi writers, has been writing about personal and small computers since the original Sinclair and Electric Pencil. Indeed, the site covers most PC/MAC issues and topics. Dr. Pournelle presents most subjects in "Joe Six-Pack" terms.

I'm runnin vista on my brand new PC, specs are in the sig (I actually have 3GB of PC5400 DDR2 RAM now, dell screwed up 3 times with my order so they sent me an extra gig free) Works flawlessly. Worked pretty decent with 1GB too, but not really satisfactory. at 3GB, my RAM usage has NEVER gone over 30%, usually hovers around 20. Completely turned off the harddrive swap file, and runnin like a dream. I think it has something to do with the CPU (unless you tried Vista with onboard or a Radeon 9x00 or GeForce FX series or lower, which Aero is going to school you until you get a better one icon_smile.gif). I've got a GeForce 8600GT. I use Vista because of DX10, its actually not all that bad, and the first set of DX10 benchies are horrible due to the bad drivers, mine works very well.

Unbuntu is the right name for the Linux distro. icon_wink.gif There are many different types of Linux distros. You'll have to check with folks more familiar with Linux, maybe like Untoldpain and MBF, but I think you can even "mix and match" the actual OS and the desktop. <---- I've probably got that wrong however I'm sure someone will be along forthwith to correct me. cocky.gif
MBF
Pretty close Bart, Kubuntu is a variation of Ubuntu using a different graphical interface, Xubuntu is for lower spec and older PCs.

I'm not really to familiar with Linux, I just played around a few times. Although I have used a live cd a few times to pull files off unbootable windows machines. Oh and a few times to recover a password or two, only for educational purposes of course icon_rolleyes.gif

Ahh; thank-you Ray. I appreciate it. I should go in for my hip, knee and ankle replacement surgery for "jumping to too damn many conclusions" regarding spelling. LOL. I've never heard of those other distros, but of course I could see them using variations of the name. So am I close in guessing that Kunbuntu is Unbunto with the KDE interface/desktop?
MBF
You are correct Sir.....
