Does anyone know of a good utility to discover what drivers you need for a system? I'm working on converting my Dads laptop from Vista to XP and its giving me a hell of a time.

Well that all depends on what type of laptop you have. Who makes it, what processor, vid card, etc. If its running Vista im going to assume its a new computer, please correct me if im wrong, so why do you want to put XP on it? I prefer XP myself no to bitch. Version Tracker will tell you what drivers you have installed and which are current and which are out of date. But you your looking at a custom job you going to have to give more info on the system.

You can go to the manufaturer's site and find out what drivers you need. If they offer the XP versions, get them there, else you will have to go to each driver manufaturer's site to get the XP version there.

It's a new Toshiba AS135- s2256 (within the last 6 months), the new laptops Manufactures dont want you to convert back to XP which means that you need to hunt for the compatible drivers.

Why would I want to convert from Vista, simply put it's garbage. On 512MB laptop it will run like crap. You need atleast 2gb to run it efficiently , this laptop is used by a 61yr old man who just wants to listen to NHRA events on Sundays....He's familiar w. XP not Vista.

Pain, yeah Something like that will identify it, I'm looking to see if anyone new of one that would also include the driver download. Simular to Driver Magic... (was looking for a free option though)
