folks- need some input.
I don't want to go too much into detail on this. Suffice it to say that I need to run lines from my transmission, over the exhaust (within 2") to my filter, and back again. The lines are rubber and I'm concerned about melting them. Anyone got advice on a good way to protect the lines? I've considered exhaust wrap in the area of the pipes where the hose will cross-- but I wonder if it will really lower temperatures that much?

i would run steel lines seperated and wraped for heat

I know that. I thought you were referring to heat wrap for the lube pipes.

What are you running in the lines? And id use copper instead of steal. If you going to use some type of wrap, i'd use an exhaust wrap.

Yes you should defiantly use copper line instead of rubber or steal for the oil in this case. See if you can also find a heat deflector of some type to put around the area of your pipe by the exhaust.

why use copper? It has a much shorter fatigue life.
This is going to be transferring hydraulic oil- transmission fluid- from my transmission to the cooler lines and then to the fullflow spin-on external filtration I'm installing on the return line.

Ok that makes sense. If i was you i'd go with a stainless steel line wrapped in a heat(exhaust) tape and use some type of heat barrier or damper in between the pipe and you new line. Or thats what i would do at least.

that provides no appreciable thermal protection. It's more of a weather seal than anything.

from what i have read you can use thin foil backed fiberglass insulation , it will not melt being glass.

I would wrap exhaust wrap on the hose and make some sort of heat shield...boneyard off another car and config to my liking.
how big is the hose?
