Bush has finally gone off the deep end. This has to be the biggest disaster-in-the-making since the Titanic. icon_eek.gif

Explain why this is such a crazy thing. It sounds like a case of enforceing our defenses. I like that better than aggression. icon_confused.gif

He wants to deploy a $70 BILLION missle defense system WITHOUT TESTING IT FIRST!!!!!!!! icon_eek.gif

That means no one will know whether the f**king system even works until it's time to intercept a missle. Not only is that bone-headed and foolish, it is morally and ethically wrong. Just because you want to do your buddies in the defense industry a favor (and by eliminating the need for regular reporting on spending for this project he already has) doesn't mean that the citizens of this country that populate the entire west coast should have to cross their fingers and PRAY the damn thing works if/when it's needed!

Sounds pretty ridiculous to me.

Where does the US get $70 billion from you are already $6,420,057,779,384.47 in debt.

It's 'fuzzy math', to use a Bushism. Since we're really in debt to ourselves, I'm guessing that ole W figures we can just print more money and pay it off, or something. icon_confused.gif

It'll work... I'm sure they have vigorous checks / re-checks at the launch site that they regularly without actually launching.

I'm not worried icon_rolleyes.gif

How about this scenario:

[list]North Korea fires a missile at the U.S.

The bright, shiny, UNTESTED missile defense system gets fired up.

They decide where to launch the interceptor from and give some orders.

Two of the silos at Vandenburg Air Force Base open up and the missles are moved into launch position.

The order is given and the missiles are launched.

Things are fine until the missles get over Los Angeles.

All of the electronic 'noise' from the TV and radio stations (and there are a BUNCH of them in L.A.!) cause a malfunction in the intercepting missiles' targeting system.

Each interceptor now sees the OTHER interceptor as the target.

The interceptors take each other out over L.A. While fiery debris is raining down on a metropolitan area housing some 4.5 million or so people, the North Korean missile continues on.

The North Korean missile hits Silicon Valley as planned and on schedule.

The rest of the interceptors were fired, but they all failed to stop the North Korean nuke from destroying the center of U.S. commercial computer science and development, having failed in one manner or another.

This also causes the collapse of the economy of California and with it the economic collapse of the United States of America.

The economic collapse of the U.S. starts a chain reaction of collapse around the globe as all of the countries that depend on U.S. aide fall into anarchy.

The rest, dependent on Americans gross consumption of their goods, slowly crumble into economic decay and ruin, joining the rest of the world in anarchy and chaos.[list]

This is not what I want to happen to any of us. It may be a Hollywood version of a worst-case scenario, but I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility if Bush is allowed to deploy his missile defense system without it being tested EVERY STEP OF THE WAY!!!!!!!
Ghandi
i do recall watching CNN one day and with the latest public knowledge N. Korean missiles could only reach the far North and Western unihabited islands of Hawaii and the far south and west islands of Alaska's somename islands. N. Korea has a way to go before finding Seatle or L.A.
ldonyo
North Korea was just an example. We have planty of people that don't like us and Russia has lots of missiles and a crappy economy. Russia probably woulsn't be adverse to selling some of their missiles.
Jason
What does everyone think of these Iraqi cargo ships navigating around the world, keeping radio silence.

Are Saddam's weapons on these ?
MadCow
I thought NC had missels that could hit US/Canada?
