hello peeps...been too long...
and yah, its me...
anyhow...heres the prob...
have a desktop in a bedroom on a wireless Dlink DWL-G122 rev C1 with the dongle...
it is about 40 feet from the wireless router and the strength is Excellent...
now, everytime when i put a high bandwidth load on, or open 3 tabs in firefox...it drops me...
and sometimes just at random, while doing nothing, or just msn...
the router is set to "g" mode only, and running WPA-SPK simple security...
i have changed to every channel ID and have reset the router as well as the computer...
i have moved the dongle and plugged it into different USB ports and even a USB 2.0 hub...
the strength always stays at "Excellent"...so i see no interference, and there is only 1 thin wall between this comp and the router...
i am using the latest firmware for the router (dlink 524) and the latest software for the wireless usb adapter...
using windows wireless manager, deafult on setup of the adapter software...
running WinXPsp2...fully updated...
i dont think i left anything out....
thanks in advance...

ok...i think its fixed...
checked the firmware again...and the firmware that was on the router was pre-ship firmware !!!
so, i flashed with the only firmware available on dlink site, the shipping firmware...and been going good since...

I suggest you try it with WEP (less secure but might work better) and see if it still drops. Another idea would be to use the Dlink utility instead of the Windows Wireless Manager. I checked the Dlink support page and it did not list a rev C-1 -- check the rev level again.

2.4 GHz wireless phones and other wireless devices in that frequency range will also cause that. I had to get 5.8 GHz phones to keep from disconnecting my son. OH, Hi Sid

the USB wireless adapter is rev c1
the router is rev E
anyhow...i do have a 2.4 ghz phone...but, i talk, get calls and no drop...the phone will be inactive, and i drop...ill unplug for the most part tomorrow and track how many drops i get...so far, 5 today....about 50 yesterday...
ill try WEP...after the phone issue is worked out...i have alot of devices on the WPA...and its a pain to switch them all over the WEP...
thanks peeps...

I had a DLink router up till about a couple months ago, and with the metal casing it was getting extremely hot. Was having sort of the same issue. Don't know if it was being affected by the heat.
And are you having the same trouble with your other devices?
btw. since i saw that sid came back from the dead i thought i would too

well...the laptop is fine...its 802.11b/g
no problems at all dropping...
but the desktop still drops every now and then...PLUS...get this...about every 24hours i have to restart the desktop because it appears offline for everything...IE, Firefox, bit comet, msn...the whole network...
so, it drops, but not as often now...and i can put i high load on it...but the piss off now is the 24 hour drop...cant download over night...cause at around the same time over night it just kills the network connection...somethings funny...no spyware/adware though...
ugh...just going to run 50 feet of cat5e/6 through the wall...tired of this wireless crap...
