Here's a couple of pictures of a furnace that had an internal explosion. Very rare occurrence. Probably a hydrogen explosion.

Actually just one minor injury, a fellow driving by in a van, I'll look for the picture. Happened in Detroit in the middle of the night.
found it, a camera phone pic of the Van and while it was still happening. I would say it was only operating at about a bare minimum or was actually shut down in this pic. Scary stuff, our worst nightmare.

Jaysus, Ray. You're a braver man by far than I am. That would have made me shit my strides three ways to Sunday. Holy Mackeral Andy!

No not me! This didn't happen at our plant, just thought they were interesting pictures. It sure makes us watch what were doing at ours. We've had our own disasters thru the years. 99% of the time its business as usual.

Yur, I realize that, sir. However, knowing what you know about what CAN happen, it is pretty scary. Still my former statement applies: you have my respect for your courage.

Good picture ... suspect this picture floats around the industry, and safety concerns/issues are checked out a little more. Does an outside agency check these blasts out, and give approval for the plant to resume production again? Would guess the repairs are really checked out as well. Looks to be a very unforgiving business at times. Great that the injuries were at a minimum.

impressive indeed MBF...me dad works in a steel mill (rolling mill maintenance tech)...I don't think they make the steel...his plant just finishes it...but still plenty of accidents and people have been killed...1 very unfortunate soul got caught under a faulty crain when it droped the spool...right on top of the bloke...that things what...3-4 tons?...
I repsect the men and women who work in mills...they arn't playgrounds...
