Is anyone using this card under XP or 2000. As far as I've read, there are no drivers other than the ones built in, and I get dropouts all the time with it. Other than tha hardware hacking trick to make it work, has anyone found a driverset or another kind of workaround?

It's mad old, says 1999 on the card. I used it a couple times just to see if it worked but the audio dropouts in Windows2000/XP made it unbarable to use and the only workaroud is to do some serious hardware hacking to get things to work on it. No fun, I think ill just go see what my computer savvy friend at school has to offer. He's got a box of sound cards that are just begging to be plucked.

I'll have to save up for a couple weeks at work, since I only work like 12hrs now I only make $50~ish a week. So If I save up for 2weeks, after I pay off my current credit card bill which is nearly $100 now thanks in no small part to the new asus, modem and power supply:)
I'll do the vortex shuffle for a while, but I'll definatly need something new.

I got the Aureal working now without the audio dropouts. It wasn't as big of a deal to do the hardware hack either. Things turned out pretty good and I have dual outs on my machine now icon_wink.gif

I got the Aureal 8310 (PCI Quad) - and it was and still is, on of the BEST cards on the market.. Even though It "only" got up to 4 sound sources (thru spdif), it supports A3D 2.0 and when you use it under win98se or winME (yuck) - you get it's full potential.. the sound is amazing.. it's real time surround.. unlike pre-recorded surround. You walk around and experience the game world in a different way..
If I could get multi speaker support with it under winxp, I'd be a happy man.. oh well, at least I got My nforce (1 with Soundstorm) which got Dolby Digital encoding icon_smile.gif
It's not about hardware hacking.. more like driver hacking. and since the "great" creative would not release the specs and materials about the vortex processor, no one in the open source community can engineer new drivers.. well, aside from the linux ppl, but that doesnt help me.
