Someone posted a link to this: http://www3.telus.net/henryho/sblive2audigy/.

So I decided to be the guinea pig and did it last night. The sound is very much improved and the installation followed the directions to a tee. Here are a few screenie:

The jury is still out on whether or not is is worthwhile, but it does sound good, we will see what happens over a little time.

It's cool that it seems to have worked Bull. I saw that mod/hack somewhere last year and forgot all about it until now. There's a couple SBLive's floating around here somewhere so I might try it out.

alright guys...

I notice a sound improvement but it's not huge, I wonder if I haveta install the audigy2 software package...

Though my system is a JVC KaboomBox so it's not the best benchmark.
My headphones (Sony MDR380s, 120$ headphones) definitely have a large sound improvement, bass is more generous, highs sound very good.

So go for it, except if your under XP, you just need to install the drivers straight out, don't need to remove the soundblaster from device manager or any of that. XP will bitch about it not being a WHQL certified driver but just go ahead and let it install, it seems to be very stable so far. icon_smile.gif

I am interested in your opinion about Audigy and EAX HD (EAX 3.0). I would like to know if there is really improvement that you can actually hear between EAX 3.0 and EAX 1.0 , 2.0. Only Audigy has EAX 3.0 because CREATIVE chose not to license EAX 3.0 to other sound card manufactures. I have read a lot about EAX 3.0 and how good it is but as you know what looks good on the paper not necessarily is good in real life.

Ok Aud ---> Aud 2 didn't work for me... it says I don't own a SB Sound Card... LOL... I'm looking through my case window and I see and Audigy Card....

Any one else have better instructions or better drivers... not that Creatives drivers are the cream of the crop anyway.... LOL

All went fine no problems and so easy, even updated to lastest version.

I did it alll on a clean install with no Creative stuff installed.

Also installed the Audigy 2 (latest versions) of the surround mixer, EAX console, speaker settings.

yes works great... now thanks Jason for the help.

still doesn't help me turn my sblive into a audigy =/
bull
mb, is does not convert the hardware. It allows the hardware to use the new and vastly improved drivers, hence, better sound.

It works greats great!!!...

What the seven steps neglect to tell you is you have to "patch" the drivers from the CD-Image your downloaded

Step (0) Browse to the folder Audio/Setup/ once you extract the 120MB rar file and run the ctcomp.exe (sp?) patcher you downloaded and "zap" the files in that directory.

I think what the patcher does is take away the system check for a SB Audigy2 card... but I could be worng.

All in all with the help of Jason and Bull, mine works like a charm and yes the sound is freaking amazing now. Better than the shitty Live!/Audigy 1 drivers.

It works!!! give it a try.

Well, I managed to muck up my dads computer during this whole fiasco. icon_lol.gif

Just kidding. I didn't go the 7 step route cause I didn't totally understand the instructions. I used the other link with the chinese drivers icon_confused.gif It installed fine and the had the 253 driver on the computer. After I did all that I decided to get the latest driver but I didn't want to run the installer again to get it on there. I used winzip and extracted the Audigy2 exe to a folder and burned it to a cd. Then I put the cd in his computer and went into device manager and updated the driver from the cd. It says it's version 324 now but it screwed up the Creative volume control. It says something about missing components and to reinstall the application. I might re-do it later. Either way, it sure beats the Diamond DT-588 he had before.
