Hello everyone. I have a decent understanding of computers but am not an expert by any means. Here is my problem. I don't know how to format my harddrive. I have windows xp installed and want to reinstall it but can't figure out how to format the hard drive. I tried to just reinstall xp over it but it kept most of the programs on the system. I tried to use a windows 98 boot disk and format this drive from dos but that didnt work either. Can someone please tell me the easiest way to format the drive. I am having some software and registry problems and want to just get a fresh start. If you could explain it to me in idiot terms that way I will be able to understand. icon_biggrin.gif Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi, the easiest way to format the drive is to boot off the XP disc and format it from there. Very simple.

Sorry if I sounded harsh. Let us know if you need further assistance.

Idiot terms icon_lol.gif icon_question.gif Well ok. You need to boot from the cdrom. Your bios by default should be set to boot from the floppy, cd/dvd/zip/etc drive then C: icon_mad.gif During setup it asks what file system you want to use (FAT32 or NTFS) and you have the option of formatting. It will show that you already have a partition and you have to choose to delete it. Next screen, press L (I think) to delete it. I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong. Choose NTFS (try to avoid quick) and let it finish and install. There's really nothing to it.

Another way is to boot to the 98 boot disk and do fdisk. Then select "delete partitions" and kill them all. Then you can format and install XP from the disk. icon_smile.gif

when you boot on the XP cd, you can choose a CLEAN INSTALL, but it requires the user to actually read the somewhat confusing screens. Don't just accept defaults, read the content and just do a clean install option and you can blast the partition with the setup.

Once you have it sorted out, install folding to give it a good stress test icon_wink.gif icon_biggrin.gif

There are several different ways to align image scrs the command align works well for individual images sample below

An inline image like this <IMG SRC=
"http://wheel.dcn.davis.ca.us/
~csandvig/ip/flower.gif" ALIGN=BOTTOM> can
be inserted wherever I want.<P>

just use ALIGN=right for right alignment
