any ideas on how to do this? i have a Soltek SL75-DRV5 Motherboard (not sure whether it has WOL or WOR).

1) I could get a WOR modem (god knows how much one of these costs)
2) Apparently I am able to get a specific WOL NIC, and get my Nokia MW1122 ADSL Router to wake my computer up via the network.

would really appreciate any input peeps! icon_eek.gif

on my asus a7v theres an option in bios under power that will let u hook up and external modem and u can call the modem and it will turn on...only downside is that ANY call will trigger it off...

im not too worried about that since my fax line is rarely called.... my computer is also usually on cept when my folks decide to turn it off, usually at the most inopportune times when i need to access my comp to retrieve files etc. icon_eek.gif

I would go the WOR modem route, but only if aren't too worried about some bored script kiddie playing with an autodialer. Maybe this link to some free Remote Control software will help you out:

thanks ldonyo.... im actually using RealVNC at the moment icon_smile.gif

would i need a modem that is WOR capable? or is the fact that my mobo allows WOR enough? or do i need both a WOR modem and a WOR mobo?

i found out that my soltek mobo can do both WOL and WOR icon_biggrin.gif

I've never used WOR or WOL before, so I don't know whether a plain old modem will work with a WOR motherboard or not. I see a header for bothon many motherboards so I guess that something needs to be connected to the header to make anything happen. You will also have to enable WOR in the BIOS.
