This may have allowed Nate to keep all of his Abit NF7-S boards, if it worked for him. In this article (forum post, actually) BIOS chips from two different motherboards are swapped in order to flash one with a corrupt BIOS (an NF7-S, as it turns out).

icon_eek.gif Actually, I never tried it cause I don't have a chip puller and didn't want to break it. They have a cheap toolkit out at Officemax this week for like $5 that has one in it so I think I'll pick one up just in case it happens again.

Here's a link to another article about hot swapping too http://www.sudhian.com/showfaqs.cfm?fid=7&fcid=17#62

I'm going to pick one of those kits up, too! For $5, why not?

Done HOT FLASH many times at the shop... Brings some back from the dead and others just stay dead. icon_lol.gif

Always worth a try...

The other tech I work with flashed a customers board with the wrong bios... When I arrived at work he had three boards apart trying to get the dead one back... icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif

Showed him how to HOT FLASH and saved his a$$ from a little embarassment.

I stopped by OfficeMax on the way home and bought one of the $5 toolkits. It's not too bad, put out by Belkin. What I also found out is that there's a $5 rebate on it as well! So your net cost (before taxes and a stamp) is (0.01)! That means you actually make one whole penny for your trouble. Of course, you'll have to wait 10-12 weeks to see your $5 rebate check, but it's the thought that counts, right?
