4 to 2 for Canada after two periods. Hey, since the Americans aren't in it, I guess I can root for Canada. Go Canada Go!

Man, is it a battle in the 3rd. Hooo-eee. Some great hockey. If Canada wins, it will be the first time that Canada has won the IIHF World Championships on home ice. The tournament was played in Halifax and Quebec City, with this, the gold medal game being played in Q.C.. Danny Heatly has set the modern day scoring record 1 upping the 1993 record of Eric Lindros. Heatly has also beat Steve Yzerman's record of 19 points in a tournament with 20 thus far.

Sadly, I have to report that the Russians prevailed in overtime and beat Canada 5-4. They beat us fair and square and deserve the Gold Medal. They hadn't won since 1993 so they wanted it more and worked more for it. Good for them. Next yeart though.... Great effort Canadian team members. You'll do better next year boys. Thanks for the great memories.

5-4 is a loss, but consider, as you noted that the Russians worked hard, and frankly, had it been 5-1 it would have really been quite sad. Canadian players are a class act, and the Russian team is up there as well-don't know much about the game, but appreciate the fact that the teams play their hearts out-next year should be a terrific game!!! Cheers, and congratulations to both sides.
