Hi Charles,

We have some amazing news to share!

Ontario Protects Vast Area of Boreal Forest

Last week, the Ontario government agreed to protect 55 million acres of boreal forest, an area of forest that is half the size of California and almost the size of the United Kingdom. You deserve a round of applause for your role in this amazing victory - Care2 members have submitted over 40,000 signatures in support of protecting the boreal forest. This agreement is one of the largest conservation commitments in history, and your activism helped make it happen.

Ontario's Northern Boreal Forest is part of the largest intact forest in the world. This majestic forest plays a crucial role in protecting wildlife and water and stores more carbon in its trees, soil and peat than any other terrestrial ecosystem. The boreal forest is home to wolverines, woodland caribou, and bald eagles and provides vital breeding habitat for many of the world's birds.

Court Restores Federal Protections for Wolves

Care2 members have sent over 300,000 signatures to federal officials in the past few years to maintain Endangered Species Act protections for America's recovering wolves. Tens of thousands of us protested the Bush administration's recent decision to delist Greater Yellowstone area wolves. And just days ago, a federal judge restored endangered species protections for wolves in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies.

This victory means that Northern Rockies states must immediately halt further killing of wolves. Already, over 100 wolves had been killed in the short time since wolves were delisted in March.

Congratulation-some good news! Good for Ontario with their legislative action for the Protection of Boreal Forest lands. Glad the wolves, and all the other animals will now have a home for a bit longer. Good up-beat story, thanks! icon_smile.gif
