Odie, I would like to know how you fair on that HSF. I have considered getting it since my 2000+ on my nforce2 (1003 bios) is running in bios @ 50+C and under 50C acc. to MBM. I think i just need to put a temp sensor on the cpu cor itself (NOT!!!!).

Aaron i will let you know when i receive it... icon_smile.gif

The 7+ was easy to install, and I had to use a screwdriver. icon_eek.gif

I felt that the setup of the leadtek board made it even easier to install, moer room and better connecter. icon_cool.gif

Hey odie, did you forget to let us know how the cooler is working? I really would like to know. Thanks dude.
odie
I have it, but its sitting on my shelf... haven't installed yet... afraid i am going to fry my cpu icon_redface.gif
ldonyo
Why do you think it will fry your CPU? Or is it your installation you're worried about?
AaronXP
Odie, you can do it. Just be very very carefull and take your time!!!!!!!

Question...Is there anything on the bottom of it? Goop or thermal glue or anything?

Nothing ont he bottom of it.. no thermal pad, grease, etc etc, it does come with a little bag of paste for the CPU. I am assuming it goes on the core??? or the centre square of the CPU icon_biggrin.gif

Now if I take my old heatsink off which did have a thermal pad, should I clean the top of the cpu core with something, or just slap onthe paste and throw the heat sink on???

I know, stupid question, but i never did this before.... anyone??? help???
bull
Well, guest. icon_lol.gif

You should clean off the CPU. Get some AS or equivalent. Put some on the bottom of the HS where it will contact the core, and then wipe it off with a lint-free rag of some sort. This gets the nooks and crannies.

Next, put some on the core of the CPU. Most I have read say about the size of a grain of rice, I have always used just a wee bit more. Spread it out evenly over the core with a small piece of paper or something flat. Get it nice and smooth.

Then, slap that bitch on there and pin her down!!!! icon_biggrin.gif

Here are a couple links to help you out:

http://www.casetest.de/download/ApplyingAr...cSilver-wmv.wmv (really good background music)

Good luck and you know where to find us. icon_cool.gif

Just be careful with the arctic silver as it is conductive... it will short out those little L1 bridges (AMD will not honour warranty when Arctic Silver has shorted out a CPU) also you want the surface layer very thin as the compund is only supposed to fill in the minute crevices between the core and the HeatSink. (I've seen thick blobs of compound actually cause higher temps.)

Be careful when you "Lock it down" align the HS and press it down evenly and hold it while you clip the back side and then the front side with a screwdriver... Watch out for traces near the front clip on the board you dont want to scratch or cut them as well.

I've seen cracked cores from improperly mounted HS's...

Here's a good installation video from AMD, they use a retail HS with a PAD on it but that's not the important part.

Give it a go it's easier than it looks icon_biggrin.gif

Troll, my video has a far superior sound track.
uNtOldPAIN
yea but his comes from AMD themselves :P

PS have u lapped that HSU while its off and not on the chipset yet?? icon_idea.gif
