Yeah pappy, it's an FX Dyna Street Bob. Probably my favorite of the newer Harley Davidson's.

I must say Dragonfly and Terabyte definitely have the best two gifts picked out...at least as far as the pictures they posted go. But if that is the case, then I would have to say I'm a Megan Fox or a Jessica Beil guy myself haha

I want my own fully-functional Iron Man armor.

But since we all know THAT won't happen... I'll be happy with whatever comes my way.

To be able to make proper amends to the wife of my friend, who passed away this past January and because of my being without cash most of the time, I didn't see it in the paper because I can't afford to subscribe to it and therefore not only did I miss the fact that he has passed but I missed his funeral. I have known Frank (now deceased) and Peggy Keen for 28 years. They were nice enough to invite me home to their place at least once a week for dinner while I was at university because they worried that I didn't eat well enough. I lived at the frat house and was estranged from my parents. Nor did I rely upon my parents support to pay for my university fees, books, rent or food. The Keens were like a loving older brother and older sister to me. I missed his funeral...... I just found out yesterday morning. Thank God Pappy phoned me last night or I would have gotten falling down drunk and that solves nothing. icon_cry.gif I have already spoken with a co-worker and I will pay him out of my own pocket to do a fall clean-up at Peggy's house if she still lives there. I pray to God that she still does. I will also make sure to visit at Christmas time as it will be the first time that she will have spent Christmas without Frank since they were married. icon_cry.gif

If you're in Basic Training - most likely you won't be able to go on leave. If you're through with Basic and attending 'A' school, you'll probably be eligible for leave.

If you're in Basic - don't fret too much about the Christmas break. Your DI's and the staff know what it's like to be away from home during that time of the year, so you'll have some time off to relax during that time. Plus, they'll have some kind of program where you can leave base to spend some time with some families who sponsor military members for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners and stuff. It won't suck as bad as you think... trust me.

The only bad thing is by starting Basic in the fall, you won't have much leave saved up around Christmas time - you'll go 'in the hole' if you take leave over the Christmas break - and that's no fun down the line when you 'need' to take some leave... it'll take forever to accrue enough to have any 'real' time off. You get something like 30 days of annual leave, well... annually... and that's it.

When I went through Air Force Basic Training (Oct '86) and landed at Tech School the 1st week of December, I opted to just stay put during the Christmas break and not only conserve my leave, but saved up enough money for a plane ticket home and then to my first base, and took two weeks of leave - that worked out where I had 2 days of leave left over, and I was partially re-imbursed for my air travel, since the military pays for relocations (on orders). Not to mention, my hair had actually grown back enough that I didn't look like a doofus with a tennis-ball haircut when I was home on leave during the dead of winter.

Christmas break was a ball. Yeah, we were still on-duty, but it was mega-light duty - our day consisted of getting up and having the dorms squared away by 0900, formation for daily briefings, and released for the day, unless someone had CQ or "Watch Officer" duty. It gave us a chance to really hang out and relax with our new buddies - which was cool.

Your call, and I suppose if you have a large family, a Christmas at home would be more important to you than it was to me. My birthday is New Years Eve, so I also typically worked on Christmas day (so the other guys could spend time with their families), and usually got rawked on my B-Day. To this day, I still have yet to work on my B-Day - and I haven't ever taken leave to do so. You'll learn how to work the system to your benefit - usually if you have slightly different goals than everybody else, you'll get a lot more things going your way.

Good luck either way - I know you're coming up on departure pretty quick. Keep us posted as you can.

My family is big, but every time they get together...to make a long story short. I'm sure I can go to a local bar, pick a fight and it would be relatively the same.

and thank you to all who have made sacrifices to serve this country.

In my case I think material objects can be gotten with strong will. What I'd really want is to see some people I know to use their head for thinking.

I agree 100%. I believe that the human brain and mind weren't placed within the skull cage just to keep the pina from meeting in the middle. <Pina = outside ear shell.> cocky.gif

All sorts of uses for grey matter-perhaps, some less distinguished than others! icon_smile.gif

Maybe I'm particularly squeamish, but I think the whole idea of eating "mainly" the nasty bits is rather unappealing. Somebody else likes it, that's their business. icon_cry.gif

It is not something that I would go out of my way for, reminiscent of 'Missionary stew', and what was called 'Long pig' by rather hungrey cannibals. Think I'll pass on that myself-notice that the butcher seems rather proud of his accomplihments.-help.gif - shocking.gif
