I'm considering building a new gaming rig... I am a fan of AMD CPU's and know that AMD quad cores have from the start been "true quad core" CPU. Intel's initial releases were 2 core 2 duo's stuck together, Where can I find out which models are true Intel Quad cores?

Is the Q6600 ?

Thanks,
Jet

I am also long time AMD fan, but truth of the matter is that Intel procs kick the crap outta Amd......at this time.

Right... however that is mainly in Benchmarks which I could care less about. I'm mainly looking to build as close to a high end system as possible without going into the thousands....

I currently run a 3200+ & 6600GT vid card... think a Phenom 9950 & a Nvidia 260 896mb should be quite a jump....

I'd consider the Intel... though I wouldnt want the "duck taped" model... I'm not an O/C'er. At least not yet icon_smile.gif

I agree with that 100%, I don't need to be the fastest guy on the block. And if I can get an AMD alot cheaper with decent performance , I'm in.

You misunderstand gentelmen. Right now an intel proc of close to or equal price to an amd will kick the crap outa it. Not in just benchmarks...in just about anything.
Get on the net..read the facts..not the hyp.

Oh..Good morin guys icon_cool.gif

As much as this pains me, I am going to have to agree with BigO's statement. And, I always try to disagree with everything he says... just because.

But, this time he is correct.

I, too, am also a long time AMD fan and it pained me to build an Intel System. icon_cry.gif

BigO I'm always looking for best bang for the buck, no argument here of Intels dominance. I said "if" AMD offered a comparable product cheaper I"m in.......Actually looking at Newegg pricing you could save up to $30 bucks on a AMD Quad that has decent benchmarks

Newegg

Toms BenchMarks

It's all about perceived value, actual cost and purpose. Unless one has been hiding under a rock with noise supression ear phones on, Intel has been thumping AMD like a cheap drum for at least 2 years with their dominant chips and technology. The only hiccup that I can recall with Intel is with they and NVidia not playing nice with each other vis a vis chipset and SLI support. Other than that, I believe it has been Intel all the way.

AMD is fighting a two front war and we all know how that ends up. I still want to buy AMD/ATI however if the company isn't going to be around to support what I buy...........? icon_cry.gif

Thank Cozy...I know that wasnt easy for you. icon_rolleyes.gif icon_cool.gif

Hey Im still usin an AMD proc ( unlike that trader coz 285.gif ) lol

I was able to get a 6400 for 120 bucks...oem. Its fast as crap but it wont O/C a lick.

Again, good morin...even you cozman.

Oh and by the way admin peeps, my group icon thingy under my names not workin ....is Bull on vacation or something? Lets get that takin care of. icon_cool.gif

I'm still doing my research here... would I be wrong in saying that the LGA775 chipset is effectively dead with the LGA1366's arrival? Basically you would be locked into what ever the fastest chip for the LGA775 line is.

W. AMD on some boards you get AM3 support, and will be able to upgrade to the newer chips when they come out.
