MC I have a personal love of RedHat, Shrike (9) is very slick... sets up easy and nVidia's driver installer (from nVidia's site) works great.
One little edit and your done.
I have tried the others but I keep coming back to RedHat.

No matter what you install, be sure you install all programming features. Even if you don't plan on programming yourself, you will need most of it to compile and install programs
(With RH's RPM files it's really easy to install things)
I'm not too sure but RPM's
might work on other Linux Distro's but I have yet to see one that supports the rpm file type except red hat.

Well, instead of starting a new thread...
I know little to nothing about Linux, and I want to put it into my dual boot config instead of Win 98... What distro should I use... (since I know pretty much nothing about Linux, including installing programs or drivers)
Help me decide what I should use...

first of need to know a little...
u wanna get rid of 98 and put lnx in its place so at a gess 98 is in its own partition
if this is right it makes life a hell of alot easyer for me
the distribution doesnt realy matter for u at this mo a simple easy to start learning one is prob the best so mdk rh suse slack couple others would be best if u have a preffrence then go with that but from what u say it doesnt matter so to make mylife easyer get a copy of mdk9.1 mainly coz i do most my work in this it uses rpms and saves me rembering or getting round to installing another distro
once u have a copy prefrably the 3cd version u can do it just with one but better if u get all 3 then the fun begins
ok so is 98 wanting gone from system
is 98 on seprate partsion
(hmmm beer and tiredness make bob spell bad)

You paid for Linux
As Linux is free, I want to see what would happen if no Linux makers anywhere got 1 single penny from Linux, obviously they couldn't complain as its free.

Paying for RedHat is actually good as it gets you the free update account, just connect to RHN and click update... Yup just like Winders... High speed and all
As opposed to dl'ing the updates from a mirror and installing them yourself...

slackware is far from easy.
how you managed to screw up i don't know.
probably a bad burn of the iso.
either way slackware has no gui for installation and is probably maddening attempting to use it after installation.
Red Hat is a breeze in installation

MMMMMM Slackware! The cutting edge of linux, latest kernels etc...
RedHat installed out of the box, 30 minutes and your pretty much DONE...
Slackware 30 minutes and your just starting to manually edit all your config files to get it up and going, unless you need to compile a custom kernel to support hardware on your system or other features...

Dont get me wrong, Slackware is a fine distro... (I started on Slackware) serious grassroots, but you really need to know what your doing.
Best way to learn linux IMHO is to install Slackware... you will really get to know what does what in the OS.

I downloaded MandrakeMove. It boots up, asks a few questions (like what language), then just hangs! I gave up on it.
