I still like AMD for the price and the performance.
I don't really think either is "better" anymore. It is just a matter of personal preference and what best fits your needs and budget.

yup, agree with bull. the p4 is as powerful as the amdxp, but it's all about budget

I like the Socket 462 AMD CPUs because they work in motherboards I already own! I'm cheap, so that kind of thing is important to me.

I dont see were theres a lot of price savings between Intel and a compairable AMD anymore.

I don't either BigO... Like I said, this time around, i would go for the Intel based P4 solution with the 800 MHz FSB (quad pumped 200 DDR)

I have had a P3, an athlon 1.13, XP1700+ and now an XP2100+.
Have to say that dollar for dollar, I am very inpressed with AMD. Not that there is anything wrong with Intel, but I feel that in the midrange speeds, AMD is a far better value.

There is no best processor, they both do exactly the same job of powering the PC at set speeds.

That covers it, in the midrange AMD has a slight price advantage, near the top it's a wash, though the P4 is leading in speed at the very top (at a price)
Overall decide what you need/want and ignore the brand names groupies

If AMD pushes and levels the system bus to 667-800MHz, it would clearly put them on top...
the AMD cpus to more work than intel CPUS...
IPC is what drives a CPU, and that is evident now, thanx to AMDs MHZ Myth campain...
Once Opteron Ships in capacity, there will be no other choice...
FAN THE FIRE FAN THE FIRE
What you think Intel will sit back and watch AMD raise there bus speed without doing nothing sorry but any bus increae from one manufacturer means a bus increase from the other.
Personally I don't give a crap if I have AMD or Intel as long as its fast.
This is a joke : Once Opteron Ships in capacity, there will be no other choice...
No other choice ?, only Intel Prescott core processor EASILY as good as what is coming from AMD.

There is a Prescott revamp next year with a 1066 FSB BUS.
Can you show me the documentation to Prescott having low yields ?

i used to be an AMD fanboy....but now i realize that what really matter is who is on top at the time of purchace. for highend go for intel. lowend to midrange go for amd. i really dont care which proc. is powering my computer as long as it is the best proc at the time of purchase.

I have more AMD than Intel, but my Intel P4 is faster than any of my AMD AthlonXP CPUs. Therefore, I did not vote because I don't have a favorite anymore.

AMD's new CPUs are just as pricey as Intel's, so they lose the whole 'price/performance' thing, which is what made them popular in the first place. Me, I buy whatever works with what I already have unless I get a mobo or CPU for free (from winning contests, usually) and need the accompanying component in order to use it.

Did the Duron itself die or the mobo, wdoll?

I'v had my P4 for a while now. And I'm very pleased with it. But I can gaurantee you come upgrading time in a few months, I'll be going A64 (San Diego maybe). I love this Intel but AMD 64-bit is as good as my P4, slightly better, in 32x applications. Unless Intel makes a rival chip (don't even say EE.. never ever paying 1k for a CPU) then I'll be getting A64. But yes. Both CPU makes are fine in my opinion.
