Yes, yes, I know many of you are AMD biased as I use to be. Well, I wanna try them out in a couple weeks.. Almost got the money all rialed up. Ok, well.. AMD use to be what i could ' aford ', now that they lost there price edge.. I wanna try out the new Intel P4 800 FSB systems..

What are you're guys opinions on this? Is it really not worth the 400$?

This is what im looking at right now:

Or.. I could just upgrade to a 2,500 Barton..

What you guys think about these new CPU's? I'v seen mem benches and there arodn 6 GIG A SECOND!! icon_eek.gif Right now I'v hit almost 3... and thats o/ced to hell... this will be too but eh, icon_smile.gif

EDIT: I also wanna get another 120 WD 8 MEG CACHE HD and Raid "0" them.. Or should i get a 80? and have that as primary... hmmm.. I'm open for opinions, and this is after CPU/Mobo, just telling you my ideas

Oh, and also, any one interested in buying a GF4 Ti-4200, brand new, not opened, possibly...? VisionTek.. Haven't received it yet, I'm going to sell it if its a GF4 Ti-4200.

I would wait for solid Canterwood or Prescott and go with Intel this time around...

and dont bother with the 8MB cache drive... for home/gaming use, it does ya no good... the 2MB cache work just as fast in over 95% of situations. The 8MB is geared for servers... but in actual tests, does not offer much improvement from a super de duper 2MB cache drive of the same make/model
Jason
the Canterwood motherboard includes ICH5 South Bridge adding SATA 150, moving this to the south bridge bypasses the PCI bus alowing the full 150 meg a second.

Also it includes Intels Communications Streaming Architecture (CSA), this pulls the gigabit ethernet MAC off the PCI bus and onto its own dedicated 266MB/sec interface to the north bridge, this also reduces CPU usage giving greater performance.

I would get a 875 motherboard and the fastest 800FSB chip you can afford. Prescott core P4 does look good too but thats Quarter 3 of this year and probably quite expensive on release.

Current Intel chips run cool and Overclock well (not that I should mention Overclocking to you  )
ldonyo
If you've got the cash, get an Intel rig going. icon_biggrin.gif That way you'd start off at 2.6GHz, which means that when you overclock it'll be the highest speed you've ever reached before!

Oh, sure, you could just get a 3200+ and some PC3200 RAM and see if you can get it to 3+ GHz using the motherboard you already have, but where's the adventure in that?
Fyend
As a former Intel Employee (Wireless Networking Division) I can only say that having worked for them and seeing how bad it is inside as far as quality and caring about fixing hardware bugs (They care only till they have the customers money then nothing ever gets fixed) I'd have to say I'll never buy another Intel product while there's an alternative.
Fyend
Intel - Yesterday's hardware tomorrow icon_smile.gif ... At a higher price.
GoKu
Hehe, 800 FSB is not tommorows products, though. So you guys think I should wait a bit.. till the actual new CPU's come out? That would give me time to save.. hrmm...

try not to fry it on the way home from the store icon_rolleyes.gif

All this to play the latest games like HL2 ROFL!!! icon_rolleyes.gif

Nvidia has cunning spans for new south bridge

MCP–S

By Fuad Abazovic: Monday 19 May 2003, 08:22
THE NVIDIA CHIPSET business has ruled the roost for the last few months which is just as well given its high end graphics business has been down in the dumps for a little while now.

Nforce 2 seems to be one juicy plum cake for Nvidia and especially now with its "new" Nforce 2 Ultra 400 version just improved original one introduced to the market late last year.

Still this new Nforce is not all that Nvidia has to say about Athlon platform since FSB 400 FSB may likely to be last stop of this CPU unless AMD64 Hammer gets further delayed.

Nvidia will introduce a new south bridge called MCP–S where S stands for Serial ATA. Apart from Serial ATA this chipset will have the Nvidia Gigabit network adaptor which will be the last innovation for this new south bridge.

Boards based on this chipset will be released in the middle of July according to current schedule and will feature Dual LAN -- one card being Gigabit capable while the other is 100 Mb LAN and of course S-ATA(n) will be part of these boards, and Firewire too, if manufacturers want that as well. µ

Sigh... looking like im spending much much much MUCH MUCH more than I want to.. I'm now looking @ a Prometia Phase Cooling case =/... Might take a good year or two now.
Ghandi
why not save for a car or college?

you have a good enough system for at least a good 2-3 years.
GoKu
No.. after seeing Doom 3, HL2, Deus EX2, I deffinately don't. All my stuff is below mid-range stuff. The g-card, compared to whats out there now, is getting below mid-range. CPU, getting slow. Motherboard, well... Thats top-of-the-line for not overclocking... But damn.. after seeing those games I want more! There is a brand new FX 5900 Ultra or 9800 pro in that pic with thoes new peices of hw, thinking for xmas maybe..

And, I have been in contact with the manufacturer so I know that Frozenscums is dicking me around and feeding me a bunch of BS. icon_mad.gif icon_mad.gif icon_mad.gif icon_mad.gif icon_mad.gif icon_mad.gif icon_mad.gif icon_mad.gif icon_mad.gif icon_mad.gif

What case?

The one I told you guys about on messenger like a month ago that I had ordered.

The thing that really makes me mad about the whole deal is I called Frozen........... last Friday and they told me that the manufacturer was out of the coolant icon_confused.gif Said that all of those cases that had been on backorder for the last 3 weeks shipped on the 16th (the day I talked to them on the phone).

It's funny that the manufacturer sent me an email on the 14th stating something totally different:

Im sorry we haven't shipped your order yet. We're still waiting for the MCW50, vendor said we'll get it late next week.

Sorry for the dealy.

Sincerely,
Michelle
