Full Version: online computer stores

I have built a couple computers for others lately and have come to one conclusion, alot of the online stores completely suck. Customer service is completely nonexistant and I am getting sick of it. I know that I should stick with the "main stream" shops, but I seem to get sucked in by the good prices everytime. icon_confused.gif

Example #1:

Bought some PC3200 from OCsystems a while back. I followed their instructions on how to setup it up (actually how to o/c it) and it would not even run at the stated speed without locking up. So I called them and they wanted me to pay to ship it back and refund all the money minus the shipping fees. For a bad product??

Example #2:

Ordered an MSI mobo/CPU combo from BZboyz. They state it may take up to 3 days to process the order and ship. 5 days later I call and still not shipped. I was assured that it would go to shipping that day. 2 more days and still not shipped, once again assured it would go to shipping. Next day same story. Following day same story. Order cancelled.

Example #3:

Ordered a 500W PSU from Arismo.com. Shipped as promised, but wrong PSU. So after 5 emails, they respond that they will contact the shipping department and get me a return label out and ship the correct PSU. Over a month later, I still have the damn wrong PSU and not even the return label. Phone # is a recording and they now have decided to stop responding to my emails.

This is ridiculous. What happened to the day when you bought something and actually got it in a reasonable amount of time without having to fight to get it?? Why can stores like GameVE, Newegg and others do this, while these companies can not?? How can you stay in business when you have no freaking clue what customer service is???

My advice is to read and generally believe resellerratings.com and stay away from these companies. There is not excuse for this crap. If they can't do a better job that this, maybe the local fastfood chain is hiring, but then again, you would order a hamburger and get a damn cold fish and then they would ignore you. 7.gif

Anybody else have crap experiences?? Feel free to rant here and help others not make the same mistakes.

I use MWave and TCWO pretty much exclusively and have never had problems with their products, shipping, billing, or otherwise. I'm not sure if they are considered 'mainstream' or not... I would think that places like Tiger Direct, Treasure Chest, etc... (the ones with advertisement mailers) are more along those lines.

The one time I had a problem with a machine I was building was because I had to learn the hard way that a lower-budget Soyo board didn't care for Kingston SDRAM... nor did it care for any of the other 'value' brand RAM sticks. I told MWave about it and they sent me a new mobo the next day with an RMA (no charge). After I tried some Corsair DDR, it was all good. I informed them of my mistake, kept the other board after I tested it (yes, I paid for it) and everything's good.

I've purchased parts from a few places, but I buy most of my gear from NewEgg. They don't always have the best price, but they always have a good price. Their shipping is reasonable, when it isn't free. They don't make you jump through hoops to return defective merchandise. Yes, you have to pay to ship it to them, but there are no other costs associated with an exchange. I've even returned a defective motherboard for a refund and I was not charged a restocking fee!

There's a reason NewEgg has such a great ResellerRating rating, they know how to do customer service right!

I've bought from Newegg before - and I like them fine as well. They're on my top-three list.
