Mister 4x4
Yeah - those were some interesting tidbits... I've seen them before and never fails to amaze me how some things turn out.
bull
Pretty interesting isn't it? Makes a person think before judging someone. Never be afraid to try something new.

Remember:

Amateurs built the Ark, Professionals built the Titanic.

Can you imagine working for a company that has a little more than 500 employees and has the following statistics:

* 29 have been accused of spousal abuse
* 7 have been arrested for fraud
* 19 have been accused of writing bad checks
* 117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses
* 3 have done time for assault
* 71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit
* 14 have been arrested on drug-related charges!
* 8 have been arrested for shoplifting
* 21 are currently defendants in lawsuits
* 84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year

Can you guess which organization this is?

Give up yet?

It's the 535 members of the United States Congress. The same group of idiots that crank out hundreds of new laws each year designed to keep the rest of us in line.

I hate when people use that reference as an example of God's 'power,' or whatever. And yeah, I can see your point - but let's put a little more perspective on that one: there have never been any icebergs in the Black Sea - flooded or not.

And the Ark was not even close to big enough to hold two of every animal on the face of the Earth and food for all (40 days is a bit of a stretch to last without food and fresh water). A touch of reality might have the flood localized to the area surrounding the Fertile Crescent - which was the 'perceived' world of the time. I don't doubt it didn't happen, just not on as grand a scale as we're intended to believe. And did the oceans recede enough for all of the animals to make it back to what's now Australia and the rest of the islands? Not likely. And a truly loving God wouldn't have taken the lives of millions of innocent sin-free creatures worldwide just to keep a handful of cast-offs from the Garden of Eden in line.

Remember also - God-fearing people were convinced that the world was flat until only 500 some-odd years ago.

Too many questions unanswered to claim the Great Flood as a planetary event, IMHO. But I do believe it happened... again, just not on as grand a scale as 'recorded.'

Down boy, it was copied from an email. icon_lol.gif

I agree with your statement whole heartidly. But it wasn't the icebergs, but the damn mountain tops that could have gotten them. icon_wink.gif

Sorry Man - I truly was not trying to crap on your thread. That phrase, along with "WWJD?" just really bug the crap out of me.

In the spirit of your third post:

"If the definition of 'Progress' is 'forward movement,' what exactly does the term 'Congress' mean?" icon_wink.gif

the story of the ark shows up pre old testament, and looks as if the hebrews borrowed it from past religions.

dont talk god to me unless you are jewish, the 1 and only religion that should be recognized, as your bible says, Jesus was jewish, and his people were jewish...thus, if you gotta believe in something, make sure your a jew!

There is a lot of thought provoking stuff written about the great flood thing and I am not refering to the biblical version. Recently I read a book titled the Hab Theroy. Though fiction the book raises some questions. The meat of the book is that pereodicaly the earth switches its axis of rotation due to ice buildup at the poles changing the center of gravity of the planet The ensuing tilt would cause the oceans to seek new ground causing the flood. Far fetched for sure. I question how is there fossilised sea floor here where I live some 800 feet above sealevel? There is a lot of it along with fossilised shells and other evidence that sometime this area might have been underwater. I used to do a lot of caving, there is a cave outside of Wurtsboro NY that at around 200 ft underground has a fosilised fish (a big one almost 2ft long) in one of the walls and clam shells abound. Signs of being underwater but with 200 feet of rock overhead. I keep an open mind and ponder all the possibilitys even the religous ones though I to am an athiaist. Sure would be neat to have a time machine to go back and see what really happened.
Mister 4x4
Well, for the record - I believe that your relationship with God, Allah, Yahwe (sp.), Budda, or whomever you choose to worship or not, is between you and he/she/it/them.

I do not believe in organized religion, as it was organized by man - it's just a social club of people who think the same thing - that everybody else is going to Hell because they don't believe the same things their organization does.

Personally, I'm agnostic - with an open mind.

HEY! On a lighter note, what does a dyslexic, agnostic, insomniac do everyday?

Stays awake at night wondering if there is a Dog.
