We were tossing around the idea of the 1st annual (or so) 4peeps bash to end all bashes. We were thinking of next spring/summer, so as to get as many peeps as possible. It could be over a weekend, come in of friday night and leave as you will. We thought about doing something in Toronto, but are open to suggestions. I would like that, as I have never left the states and our USD's would buy more beer up there.
Questions:
1. Are you interested?
2. Is Toronto and good location, or where else?
3. What time do you like, late spring or early summer, or another time?
I would just like to get an idea of who may be able to get together. Alot of us have been together for years, and it would be a major bash if we actually got to meet in person.
Post away, and yes Jason, bobert and LL are on the most wanted list. You have almost a year to save for airfare.

This would kick huge ass... count me in... TO is a nice city...
And it would be awesome if LL, bob and Jas can come too... well Jas and Bob I don't know about LL... hes allowed if he brings porn...
I am for it. But the first prick that throws a package at Bacon at me gets a facefull of pepper spray as I yell out "
Stop Resisting!!!" Ya know, in case anyone has a video camera around there.....

would have been very cool indeed. $1400 is a pretty steep price to pay for a planeticket over a weekend though, even a week, so i have to give it a thought. price is only reason i haven't been overseas yet.

Well...I'm new, but Toronto would work for me, it's only about a six hour drive from here. And summer, rather than spring. I work an average of 75 hours per week in the spring.
But, carry on with what works for y'all, since you've been together a lot longer than I've been around.

I might be able to make it but it'll depend on a couple of things (like a sitter for my kids first off) depends on when you actually decide to do it though. It's only about 400 miles from here, so about a 6-7 hour drive or so. I'll have to see what I can do after you guys figure more out
Sound like fun ....... ~sid~ do you need a ride ?

For the love of all that's holy...don't CHECK it!
I've flown with my laptop quite a few times...you carry it yourself, only hassle is that sometimes they want you to boot it up to make sure it's not a bomb. I just don't shut mine down until I'm on the plane, saves time. But no...you'd have to be either an idiot or certfiably insane to put a computer in
checked luggage.

1300 Miles for me but I'm up for it.
TO is cool for me, been 15 years since I've moved away from there.

(We canucks need passports now to go state side? Oui?)
$99 cheap ass red eye can probably be booked enough in advance.
Keep on this and lets get it hammered out.

Aug 7 2003, 12:59 AM
what we need first is a date...1 week...somewhere...
Toronto seems like a candidate...but lets see where a backup can be...
need to book hotel for conference...and work out how we are all gonna eat...and who is sharing rooms...also, computers is another thing...also, tours...those from afar will want to be tourist ya know...
would be nice to raffle off something to those who attend...

I think I'd have to start making some serious plans about this 'Canadian Tour.' TO sounds awesome - I'd love to go there. Hell, anywhere away from Texas is good for me. Problem is, I make it all the way up there, I'll need to swing by Winnipeg to visit another friend, and drop by BC on the way back to see some more friends, as well as Seattle to visit one of my high school buds I still keep touch with... and then drive through Salt Lake City... and at some point, convince Mrs. 4x4 that this will be fun for her too.
The big hassle is my company's vacation plan which absolutely sucks. Hopefully, when the new company steps in, it'll be better.

MC, no one lives in TO but its a good central place to have it...
~sid~, I will help setting up / planning, and i am sure bull will help too and others, we need ideas thats all.
I personally think TO is a great location. Because I do not have a passport to cross border into the states... if that rumour is true...
And like bull said, everything is cheaper here for our neighbours across the border. Alot cheaper... mmmmmmmmm.. cheap canadian beer...
~sid~
Aug 7 2003, 09:23 AM
Also, i was thinking NIAGARA FALLS
that would also be a good location, but because of the high tourist place that it is...hotel rooms and food would be twice as expensive...
ok, ill vote myself in on this Meeting Commity...
bull
Aug 7 2003, 09:32 AM
That is why I wanted to put the idea out there now, so we have plenty of time to plan it out.
Since the travel alone it going to be costly, we need to watch expenses. Make it as reasonable as possible. Don't need a ton of bells and whistles. Just all the peeps together, meeting face to face and having a few beers will be cool as hell.
Let's make it fun, but try not to go overboard. To much $$ will further limit the peep pool.

And I will make damn sure to use all my Law Enforcement powers so you never get a passport.

Yea, not everyone makes as much as Ace or has as much buried in the back yard as Pappy.

Let those two stay at the fancy hotel, we need them there, for bail money in case the Canadians do not offer
Professional Courtesy to U.S. Cops.

I looked on Orbitz.com at plane tickets in march on weekends.
if i was to leave wichita on a thursday and leave toronto on a sunday it would be $414.
if i was to leave wichita on a friday and leave toronto on a sunday it would be $448.
which i don't think is to bad at all. quite a bit cheaper than driving for me.

Well, crap. If nobody lives in TO, then who's house we gonna crash?!
OK - since this is startin' to get complicated, I vote we hold it in San Angelo. No tourist traps, cheap hotel rates, it's not snowing or anything during the winter/early spring (shorts weather in fact) and AceHigh has a big deck and backyard for a Barbecue - so we can trash his place. Plus, I have a network with 12 potential connections (as it sits) and DSL, so we could LAN party like crazy just a few miles away.

The big drawback is nothing to see here, and I won't get to go anywhere cool.
~sid~
Aug 7 2003, 02:34 PM
we need not a house to goto...a motel would be fine...
but if we need a house...i would say ace's aswell...lol...and 4x4 for the LAN parties...
one problem though...canadians cannot pass through to the states without a passport...
well, us Canadians would need to purchase passports...think they run $160...
i would bus it down with odie and the other canadian peeps if possible, and maybe catch a ride with Steve

Toronto would be great, San Angelo, Niagara Falls, or Florida...

I'd like to go, but my wife will be with me no matter where it is. I don't know if we'll be able to afford a real vacation for a while though. We bought a 2003 Rav4 last Saturday to replace her aging Camry and we bought a new house on May 31, so we're pretty much homebodies until I win Powerball or something!
Mister 4x4
Aug 7 2003, 11:31 PM
Well crap! We can't have the whole passport thing be such a major part of the expense.
How bout if we put up a world map, drop everyone's locations on it, then average out where the exact geographical center would be, then have it there. I mean, as long as it's not out in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean or something, it's doable, right? Oh, and anywhere in Arkansas, West Virginia, or Oklahoma is out of the question - those people are real freaks there.

You guys can just smack me and say shut up... I know I'm not exactly helping much with this.
