DSL is the answer...
It's a good choice.........where it's available.
I got the impression that ace lives beyond the reach of useful wires.
and I agree non'commerial satellite is a last choice, currently getting worse. direcway/direcPC is in the process of consolidating all its users on to fewer satellites leading to more overcrowding then before.

I only live something like 5 miles from Ace, and I got DSL. Static IP address to boot.
I dropped cable a couple years ago because it was slower than dial-up when everybody in my neighborhood got home from school/work/etc., and jumped on their machines.
Someday, he'll get the clue.

weird - I originally started with @Home cable with a 3+ Mbps down, 128 Kbps up connection
then it got bought by ATT broadband, which cut my download speed to 1.5 mbps and increased upload to 256 Kbps, and eventually upgraded us to 1.8 Mbps down.
then it got bought by Comcast about 1 month ago, my downlad is 1.8 Mbps still, but my upload is closer or at 384 Kbps (just the past day I noticed it, but hopefully it will hold)

If you have the wireless option, it is supposed to kick some serious ass.
I wanted to go wireless (3x the speed for less $$), but am too damn far out in BFE.

I get 3mbits down, 256 k up. I rarely have problems with MSN except recently. it's nothing to do with cable as it drops off way into the internet.

DSL is the way to go... Not effected by extreme temp fluctuations, Dynamic IP (At least here), Fast (I get 3Mbit down and 640Kb up), reliable...
Cable blows huge moosey...

Avoid Satellite like the plague.
It's allright for browsing, but espically with the 2 way, gaming is no good just because of the physical limitations of the system itself. Rembember you have to beam a signal 22,500 miles up and then that signal goes back down the the satellite NOC, to the internet, back from the internet, back up 22,500 miles, and then down again back to you. Just for the 2 way. One way the request is sent through your phone lines, to the NOC where the data is gathered and sent down to you. Either way you would feel the pain in online games with ping times well over 999ms.
Earth based systems are much better for gaming at least right now:)

true fx.. but you forgot how fast they travel.. the ping would be about 400ms anyway.. same as if you were gaming on a china server from here.. 56k would be about the same fore aming
