The problem i seem to be having today is my processor is not being read right by my motherboard. I have a amd athlon xp 2500+ processor in my computer and it is operating at a whopping 1.1 GHz, which is quite upsetting. Going into the BIOS wasnt very helpful in this case for i could not figure out how to change the speed to the proper one. HELP ME OUT!
AceHigh
What motherboard do you have?
pappy177
Have you overclocked it?
bull
Check the FSB in bios. Alot of bios are set to 100fsb out of the box. Set it up to 133 and you should get a correct reading and faster speed. icon_cool.gif

Yea we really need some more info...is the AMD chip a barton or Tbred?...Brand and model #of the Mobo, also...What ram would also be useful (ex: Pc2700)...and did u ever flash the bios? and if so What revision? icon_cool.gif

Edit: what settings do you have on Multipliers?
~sid~
ok, your new to computers...first thing to do...dont listen to no-one but me icon_smile.gif

ok, in your BIOS, if you just look around (yes look around, its good for you, cause you will go in there alot more in the next few months)...so take a look...

look for something that denotes FSB or CPU speed...chnage this to 133 MHZ...

save, and reboot...
GoKu
Don't listen to sid, take the FSB to 200!!! pump that baby for all it's worth!!

Actually, there right. Take the FSB and put it to 133.. it should either be, 133x14 or 133x15, being as the 2,500+ are.. 1.8 mhz or 1.9.. I think 1.8
Ghandi
that is my cousin.

he has a XFX Mach4 KT400?

don't know what the deal is though couldn't find the settings to change the processor.

it was reading at 100mhz fsb though.

must be a physical jumper for fsb on mobo you can change. usually defaulted to 100fsb also

Well, theres always the manual
http://www.xfxforce.com/mb/tech_supportvie...hp?sku=KT400ALH
http://www.xfxforce.com/mb/tech_supportvie...hp?sku=KT400ALH
and there is a BIOS update for both/either to allow support for faster cpu's

T-Shirt, the links you posted are broken... icon_confused.gif
And the 3dots in the middle cause all copy+paste attempts to fail icon_cry.gif

It is for several different VIA-based boards. On page 24 of the manual it tells you which combination of jumpers to use for obtaining the different FSBs that are supported. The jumpers it mentions are JP5 and JP6, which ought to be located to the right of the IDE connectors, JP6 being closest to the IDE connectors. The jumpers are placed on the board in a North-South configuration, which means the two pins on the left are JP5 and the other two pins on the right are JP6. For your Barton you wnat to put the jumper connector on JP6 and leave JP5 open.

True true, but you gotta be careful with jumpers icon_confused.gif

i went into the bios and attempted to change the fsb speed but it would only go up to 132mhz. so i did so. this put it up to a whopping 1.45ghz. for some reason though it said that the max was 132. the motherboard model is kt400-anb.

what brand?

sounds to me like the bios is fried , call the MB people where you got it and requset a new chip or return the MB.

and tell goku to shove it.

Please read my previous post, it explains everything. Yes, there are a couple of jumpers that must be set in order to get the board off of the default of 100MHz FSB, which is called 200MHz in the manual because of the Athlon XP's clock doubling. There is nothing wrong with the BIOS, it is designed to limit the CPU clock based on the FSB setting as set by the physical jumpers on the motherboard.

If you don't bother to read my post, click the link and read the manual! It is where I got my explanation from in the first place and there are even lots of pictures for those of you that don't want to do any actual reading. icon_wink.gif

Well we did the jumper switch and it gave us a max of 199mhz.

so we started at 166mhz and climbed our way to 199mhz at 5mhz at a time to make sure tempatures and stability were ok.

at 199mhz for the CPU FSB the processor it runs at roughtly 2.2ghz and it is quoted as a 3200+.

at 166mhz it was quoted as a 2500+ and ran at roughly 1.8ghz.

the temps hit a high on the cosbi test of 54*C and idle at 50*. noting that at 1.8ghz then idle tempature was 49*C.

He does plan on getting a better HSF (heatsink/fan) and also apply thermal grease (heatsink grease) to help with the tempatures.

if you look at the COSBI Quick Test results you can see the results of the processor at 2188mhz which is what COSBI was reading it at.

and btw it beat Troll's 2.8ghz Intel P4 dope.png

Brady would has posted this himself if it wasn't for the damned Floppy drive screwing everything up...including the windows install. icon_rolleyes.gif

Glad things are working out for Brady! icon_biggrin.gif At least floppy drives are cheap. icon_wink.gif
~sid~
who uses a floppy drive anymore?
ldonyo
I do, because I can't boot of of a USB thumb drive and I need to flash the motherboard's BIOS on occasion. icon_wink.gif
mbeeston
i also use floppies... they help with bios falshing a transporting barebone drivers to other comps icon_wink.gif
BigO
I too must confess to using a floppy, but lets face it, the cd can do anything the floppy can.
