I found the screen way too dim and the reception sub par, but Ericsson/Sony always had lousy antennas.

First Post!
I have the 610 (616 in my case), and it's wonderful
I upgraded to the 616 after I threw the t68i (mad at mom lol), got it the day it came out

The screen can be a bit dark in the sunlight, and the fact that the ring is ALWAYS the ascending ring can be a bit annoying, but overall, excellent phone. Also, the GSM coverage at my moms house sucks ass, What can I do to get better coverage for cheap? I don't particularly like roaming on Cingular's towers.... (I have AT&T, had them for 2 years)

the ascending ring tone thingy was solved with a software upgrade if i recall correctly.

What can you do? hehehe... Simply put.. change to CDMA... Verizon or Sprint... They most likely have coverage where you need it...
I've heard some bad things about GSM service everywhere... just lack of penetration I guess, but CDMA is the way that Asia is going, so it must be something good...

It really depends where you are.
In California and most of the places I've travelled to in the USA (Hawaii, South Dakota, Texas, Oregon, New Jersey, etc.) my AT&T GSM/GPRS works just fine. My coworkers have Sprint and Verizon and it never fails that they get no signal. Even at my house my AT&T works but Sprint, Verizon and even Nextel do not.
Tech TV did a review on Verizon coverage recently for their "click to talk" knockoff of Nextel's walkie talkie feature and it was lousy. Nextel worked fine and Verizon didn't work at all in many places.

try cdma vs gsm in europe
Earthman
Jan 28 2004, 04:30 PM
Up here in Canada.. CDMA is the king...
Frankly it does not surprise me that the PTT feature doesn't work well, it's a bad idea, with the technology that is currently there...
The Nextel/MiKE iDEN system is the best for PTT, as it is what they call "Always on" technology... And until CDMA goes from a "sleeping" system to an "Always on" then it'll never match the instant two way function of the IDEN system...
But looking at CDMA vs. GSM is all in the eyes of the end user... both have had their share of problems in the past, but they all have their positives as well...

GRRR work is making me switch from AT&T to Nextel. Bye bye good reception and long battery life... hello spotty coverage and battery life dropping to 1 day of standby.
Earthman
Jan 28 2004, 08:51 PM
If you are getting one day of standby, then you need to get a new battery... I get about 2.5 days per charge on my color i95... Coverage.. I don't know about...

Love that phone, I want to get the T721i or something, it's that phone, but with optional camera attachment.

The T731 is what we have up here...
The inside is the same, but the front faceplate is different... (^_^)
Unfortunately the camera has been taken out of the picture by the provider, but at least I have the cam for my i95

You know, I would switch to Sprint, but I'm very picky on the phone that I use. First of all, I HATE flip phones. Second, I HATE external antennas. Also, it HAS to be full color (at least 16-bit), support some sort of internet, has to have bluetooth.
That leaves me to the Ericsson T616, which Sprint does not carry nor support. I'm screwed.

We just all bought new batteries for our 90 and 95's at work. Standby is still less than 48 hours. This is a common complaint about Nextel, they suck through power faster than you can say "Crappy coverage".

I don't know.. make sure you're not getting old stock..
On my i95 for example, I get approx 3 days of standby, and I use it about 1400 minutes a month... Mind you.. I'm with Telus, and I have enabled a better vocoder (that was by default disabled by Telus) on mine, that uses less of the battery power...
