Hello all...

As some of you know I got a new router... from SCM...
I have one comp that is xp/linux and 98...

And I cant seem to get my 98 to talk to my XP... I have tryed every thing I can think with the XP set up home network... and have tryed removing all network adapters and protocals from the 98's network manager thing... and then used XP cd to set up a home network... but that didn't help...

I have tryed to use the same workgroup name... (home and mshome).... but nothing icon_cry.gif

And when I am in XP... if I go to my computer and then down to my network places and then down to where it has my HOME workgroup.. but then says I don't have permison to access it...

unistall all network all protocols and reinstall only the one you need. TCP is the best way to go. Then set them up with static IP's and same workgroups and you should be good to go.

Sometimes DHCP is not good, in fact linksys recommends you assign your PC's static IP's for their routers. That may give you a hand.

Cheers.

Also, sometimes with 98, you need to install NetBEUI for it to interface correctly with others on the network.

What Odie says is what I would do, use tcp and let the 98 machine obtain its own address. I use 2k instead of XP but it should be similar. I set the 2k machine for 192.168.0.1 with a sub net mask of 255.255.255.0 and it will detect the 98 machine by its self

I do have netbeui running on the 2k machine

Didn't yakky ole NetBUI get the boat with XP? 285.gif

IPX/SPX will talk between the two as well, and just ditch that 98 and put on 2K or XP

There are other issues if XP wont let you look in da 'hood...
