Why can't a local ftp server link to a network share ?
Hey i'm ruing serv-u on win xp pro, and I have a nother computer on my network where I store most of my files. I'm trying to setup serv-u to access those files. But when I set it up, it can't find it and gets error 550. Somehting to do with permission denied, any suggestions guys ? i'd realy like to get this working.

you'll need to map the network share and make the mapped drive available to your ftp.

in windows explorer -> tools -> map network drive -> browse to network share and choose drive letter -> set ftpd to access the 'new' drive letter

You also need to make sure that whatever account you're using to connect to the network share through the FTP server is valid on both machines (i.e. user/pw). If you're using a user account on the machine for your FTP client to connect to your FTP server, you'll probably need to set them up an account on the machine with the network share you're trying to allow them access to.

Either that, or your FTP software may have a 'connect to share as:' feature where you can use a generic account to connect to your network shares on other machines.

Also make sure whatever accounts have access to those shares also have the proper group policies and permissions through the directory security properties.
