I find this to be one of the most "amazing" songs ever, given the history behind it. If you don't know it, do yourself a favor and research it. It is most definitely worth it. What courage this took.
Words to Amazing Grace
"Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.
T'was Grace that taught...
my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear...
the hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils and snares...
we have already come.
T'was Grace that brought us safe thus far...
and Grace will lead us home.
The Lord has promised good to me...
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be...
as long as life endures.
When we've been here ten thousand years...
bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise...
then when we've first begun.
"Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

Thanks B-man!!! Now I'm tearing up!!

This may sound funny, but my chest gets really tight every time I hear this song being played by a Scottish Pipe Band!
Dunno why but it does!
Thanks again B-man!!

You are welcome G. My pleasure. I really really love this song. It is truly a great song. I probably have 10 different versions of this song and each one is uniquie and wonderful. I too tear up when I hear this song. I also tear up when listening to Ave Maria, I Saw The Light and a few others. However, this is a real heart string puller for me.

You are welcome, Scaler. My pleasure. It truly is a great song. Bill Moyers presents (PBS fella and intellectual/investigative journalist) did a two hour special on just this song. It was enthralling. It means so much to so many people in so many different ways it is truly incredible. To me it means redemption no matter how heinous your past as long as one is willing to truly believe and renounce the ways and sins of one's past. As goofy as it may sound it really lifts my spirit/soul and makes me feel a better person. Silly of me.

Yeah....nice song....
But I don't like the idea that I'm being a wretch!!

Thanks for the insight.
But the song that touch my heart is 'On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross...'

My favorite verse is:
Welcome to the jungle
We've got fun 'n' games
We got everything you want
Honey, we know the names
We are the people that can find
Whatever you may need
If you got the money, honey
We got your disease
[CHORUS:]
In the jungle
Welcome to the jungle
Watch it bring you to your
knees, knees
I wanna watch you bleed
Welcome to the jungle
We take it day by day
If you want it you're gonna bleed
But it's the price you pay
And you're a very sexy girl
That's very hard to please
You can taste the bright lights
But you won't get them for free
In the jungle
Welcome to the jungle
Feel my, my, my serpentine
I, I wanna hear you scream
Welcome to the jungle
It gets worse here everyday
Ya learn ta live like an animal
In the jungle where we play
If you got a hunger for what you see
You'll take it eventually
You can have anything you want
But you better not take it from me
[CHORUS]
And when you're high you never
Ever want to come down, YEAH!
You know where you are
You're in the jungle baby
You're gonna die
In the jungle
Welcome to the jungle
Watch it bring you to your
knees, knees
In the jungle
Welcome to the jungle
Feel my, my, my serpentine
In the jungle
Welcome to the jungle
Watch it bring you to your
knees, knees
In the jungle
Welcome to the jungle
Watch it bring you to your
It' gonna bring you down-HA!
What????????? Wrong song???????????? Oh, Never mind......*sigh*

Kevin Bloody Wilson's version is a giggle 'Amazing Grass'.

Welcome to the Jungle by Guns 'n' Rose is a very good song, not quite in the league of Amazing Grace though. I like Jim Carey farting around to it in the Dead Pool (Clint Eastwood movie.)

Don't reckon this Kevin Bloody Wilson toff. Amazing Grass does sound funny though.

I'm right there with you on that count G. It seems like every time I hear it on the pipes is at a funeral. It kind of makes you feel good and rips you up at the same time.

However, if I may add to your comment, with your permission, it rips you up in a
good way. At least that has been my experience.

Here it is - MP3 format. For speed of service, I posted it in my WWW directory at my local ISP. Roughly 2.46Mb. Crank it up and bump your base up too - the low brass is a little weak as this was a non-professional recording.
DCI-PhantomRegiment-AmazingGrace.mp3 Enjoy, and this might just give a little insight as to why I really dig D&B music. (Well, I was also in the marching band during high school)

You're a damn good fellow, e.h. Thanks, my brother.
A nice version. Ran it thru MP3 Gain to smooth it out.
